I advise you not to stop only in Como city, but to turn on the lakeside roads through the various beautiful and characteristic villages.

We were staying in Torino, and came up to Lake Como for a day trip.
We caught the slow ferry from Como to Bellagio return. We didn’t see much of Como, but were amazed at all the beautifully kept villages along the lake. All beautifully green and manicured. The people here take pride in their villages.
Recommend having a swim at Bellagio, there may be a train that can transport you to the beach? Otherwise pay €6.50 to walk through the beautiful grounds alongside the lake. We had wandered outside of the main shopping and restaurant district and found a lovely restaurant La Bellagina Ristorante Pizzeria with a terrace and views over the lake. Excellent pizza and great prices.

What was supposed to be a dream trip turned out into weird trip. It all started when we decided to buy the tickets at the railway station in Milan and not via Internet (HUGE MISTAKE). I am fluent in several languages, unfortunately Italian is not one of them. The lady who seemed speaking some English sold us a ticket which was told to let us use the whatever boat on Como whenever possible and then then go back to Milan from Como. To cut long story short she sold us absolutely different ticket, there was ZERO information when we arrived to Como, no one seemed to know anything. In the result we didn’t ride a boat and had to buy another ticket back to Milan.

But the lake is gorgeous!!!!

the lake and town of Como are probably in my top 5 places i've travelled to.

the city is indeed a unique northen italian experience. there's something special about it's narrow streets and the architecture, it's flooded with tourists but it doesn't feel like it. you can easily wander around and feel an authentic italian living.

we've only stayed for a day (it was our day trip from Milano) but i could definitely spend an entire week here just enjoying the atmosphere that the town holds. it's unlike other towns and cities i've been to - it's big but doesn't feel like it, it's crowded but you don't notice that as much and it's in the mountains but it's got a seaside feeling to it, because of the lake. there are some amazing cafés where you can just sit outside and enjoy the view. loved to see so many people on bikes or walking around, it was truly beautiful to experience a day in this city.

if you're visiting Milano, don't miss this one - it's easy to get from there and definitely worth your time!

A must-see in the North of Italy. Easy to get there from Milan. Best to plan at least a day. An itinerary that we recommend is the following: Come and its city centre, then take a long ferry trip to go to Bellagio, and finally take another short one to finish your trip with Varenna. You fill have a wonderful overview of lake Como. Enjoy!
