We visited the Lake Como area, first strolling around the city, the Duomo is a must, magnificent and big for such a small place, also all the streets sorrounding the harbor.Took a ferry and visited Varena and Bellagio, specially Varena is beautiful and typical of those old italian towns with those narrow streets and massive stairs climbing the upper part of town. The views from the ferry of those mountains is surreal and amazing.
Definitely one of the highlights of our trip.

My husband and I took a day trip with Viator from Milan to Lake Como and were not disappointed. It is one of the most beautiful places in Italy. The drive there was lovely, the scenery gorgeous and the weather was perfect. We had time to look around the town and do a bit of shopping and get some lunch then boarded the ferry for a couple of hours on the lake before getting off at Bellagio with time to look around. We had a guide from Milan who gave us an interesting commentary on who owned some of the homes on the lake as well as information along the way in the bus. For our return to Milan we boarded the bus again at Bellagio and I have to commend the skill of the driver for negotiating the narrow roads!

We visited three villages on Lake Como. Our stay was in Lecco, the quieter of the villages. We stayed in NH Hotel, a very good choice. It is a fine hotel. The service is excellent. Bring your own soda and save the 5 Euros! There is great opportunity for strolling, watching the fishermen and their routines, sitting by the lake, shopping, and some excellent food places and cafes. Take the boat ride (4 hours) that stops at most villages around the lake. Get off at Bellagio, the smallest of the three villages. It is very pretty and has lots of shops. Have a nice lunch, then proceed to take the boat on to Como. There are endless photo ops of the mountains sloping down to the lake with beautiful architectural and colorful specimens all along the way. Como is the largest of the three villages, the most congested, too. There are designer shops and you may even see a celebrity. Have an ice cream if you like. Return to Lecco on the bus. The entire day is at a most reasonable cost. Only a 5 Euro ride on the train from Milan.

Como Italy is a beautiful quaint village town on the step of the Alps, great shops, restaurants and watering holes. The Duomo in town is a must see and a boat ride on the Lake is recommended to enjoy the views of the Alps.

We were towing our caravan, Dove-Calais stopping at sites in France Rhemes then Bonnal which is very pretty on a river, weather was good Sept 13. From there we drove through Switzerland (we had purchased a vignette on-line before leaving, this allows you to use their roads) We reached Sorico (north part of lake Como) on the third day, however you could do it with one stop. As soon as we arrived over the border the temp shot up to 30c. We took a boat trip zig zaging across lake Como stopping at very beautiful villages terminating at Bellagio, villa Metzi gardens well worth a visit, immaculate! On the Sunday drove to Monza for the F1 Gprix, only 50miles away. Milan by train only 15euros each from Colico this included the underground. total holiday cost including Ferry,sites,fuel,tolls,£1000. Food and GP extra.
