Lake Como is magic.
Take the boat and take the time to get off at each stop. Every one has something unique.
There is wonderful people, good food, and shopping.
Como itself is a good city to walk around and has some interesting art galleries
Even if you do not run into George C everyone on the boat will point out his house.
Where ever you stay go out and explore!

“Stunning Scenary”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 17, 2013

Was over in Italy for New Year for 5 days and spent 4 days in Como and day trip to Milan.Lake Como has to be one of the most beautiful scenic places in the world, with its views of the Lake, mountains, Alps in the distance and old churches which pop up everywhere. In Como you can take boats every hour and go along the Lake stopping off in different towns at fast pace or else take a relaxing boat trip and stay on board for a hour at a reasonable £10 euro.

You can also take a cable car up to the top of the mountains and you get a fantastic view of the Alps in the distance and look down on Como and the surrounding areas, also a lovely walk at the top and great churches to stroll into and look at the art all over the walls and roof

The food in Como is terrific and the best to sample, ranging from their Pizza's too their lasagne. Look around as their is some quite expensive cafe's while you can get full at the same price for more in a nice restaurant during lunch times.

Shopping in Como is great with lots of different ranges of stores suitable for everyone's needs and also the markets at the main square are brilliant with great prices.

Milan is only 45 minutes by train and airports, so great to pop in for day trip and something different.

I would highly advise to travel to Como whenever you have a chance, maybe summer time as its freezing in New Year, but the Fireworks are great over the Lake on New years Eve

“Serene, Scenic, Enjoyable”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 16, 2013 via mobile

Our two night stay in Lake Como was marred by overcast skies and rain, however I can understand why this part of Italy has such a great reputation and why it is such a popular destination.
A break in the weather gave us the opportunity to take a ferry to several of the beautiful towns that are dotted around the lake. We were staying in Bellagio so a trip to the other side of the lake was necessary for us to get a better understanding of the area. We visited Tremezzo (Villa Carlotta), walked to Menaggio, caught the ferry to Varenna, where we had lunch.
Make sure if you visit the latter two towns that you walk back from the lake as both towns offer more than what you see from the ferry. There are plenty of walking trails inland from Menaggio, but the weather prevented us from doing so.
A ferry ride on the lake is a must.

“Really pretty”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2013

My husband and I went in May. It was quite dead and not very fun. A lot of places were closed. The towns were super fancy and maybe a little too much for us. The beauty is undeniable but we didn't love our time here. We spent 3 days and got pretty bored.

“Fairytale place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2013

Lake Como is the place to be... It has everything - crystal clear water, mountain peaks towering above the lake, cozy towns huddled along its shores...

It must be just perfect in summer, but winter time is great too - you can také long walks on the lakeside, enjoy centers in its Christmasy splendor... Or a New Year's party with dance directly on the main piazza (experineced in Lecco)...

And it is just 30 minutes to skiing resorts, such as Piani di Bobbio in case you feel like snow and winter sports.
