Dinner at Balzi Rossi restaurant is a complete experience in Italian dining, a beautiful balance between tradition and cutting edge proposals. Each plate (my son and I ordered the tasting menu) is a work of art but created clearly with TLC, honoring this high level, three generation family run business. The collaboration between Pina Beglia, the founder, and the young Head Chef Riccardo Marcenaro is exquisitely expressed in each dish in a shared tribute to fresh, local ingredients yet with an innovative take on traditional Ligurian cooking. Clearly the crew in the kitchen is philosophically in line, everything was beautifully delicious from the homemade bread and focaccia to the sublime desserts presented to us.
The dining room is graciously looked after by Rita Beglia and her husband Franco, and they are supported by their children Valentina and Francesco, and a sharp equipe always at hand to ensure a memorable moment.
Perched over the Mediterranean Sea on the border with France, at sunset the modern white dining room and decor are in perfect contrast to the muted colors and pastel stone of the antique town of Mentone: a contemporary point of view rooted in tradition and old world value, Balzi Rossi.
