I'll say one thing first - I never complain in a restaurant or ask to speak to a manager, and am pretty easygoing...this is the first time I have done so.
My fiancé and I came to Ventimiglia to meet my Italian side of my family, and were recommended this restaurant.
We thought it strange when our appetizers arrived at the same time as our other couple of guests received their mains. After waiting a long time and after several requests (each about 5-10 min apart) we felt the staff were getting a bit rude with us, which was frustrating as nobody could tell us why we had no food. Other tables around us who ordered well AFTER us were already eating and we were given excuses such as "it's busy" or "this is how you ordered your meal"...?????..err....pardon? This made no sense, so after three attempts to ask where our food was (during which the other couple had finished their mains) and a 25 minutes wait, we decided to cancel as the waiter arrived with the food (our original waiter seemed to be avoiding our table by now). They then tried to charge us for the meals we did not eat. When we asked for the manager and made it clear we did not want to pay for these two dishes, as we would be eating them as the others sat watching, they tried everything to blame us for ordering incorrectly?!?!?!. Then changed their tune and said that pasta was 'first' not a 'second' dish so wouldn't come out the same time as the 'mains' (so a first would come out after a second?!?!?!) Then one waiter was so rude he said "Ok then, bye bye" ...?!?!?!?! It was a stunning display of apathy.
We have travelled around the world for our work and have dined at many fantastic restaurants from New York to Berlin to Paris to Sydney etc etc and we have never experienced this! It was quite a disappointment as our appetizers were really lovely and we looked forward to our main meals, but alas, it was not meant to be. We hope this was a one off occurrence and would hope no-one else was treated like this, as we were and still are completely dumbfounded by this kind of service.
We ended up enjoying gelato and coffee in the centro part of town at a little family place after that and it was great! So the night ended well and we were not going to let that experience sour our last night in this beautiful town.
