Hotel Minerva
Reviewed June 27, 2012

This is my first review posted on tripadvisor - we usally book (and therefore review) through a booking website. We booked for three nights direct on the hotel's website www.hotelminerva.eu - a room with balcony was only 10 euros more than a basic room, but a basic room would still give access to the roof terrace (excellent views but limited number of sunbeds and chairs, no parasols and no shade until the afternoon) and the very pleasant secluded garden. Couldn't fault the room, excellent buffet breakfast, service and staff.

It may need some help for customers because it is sited off the main promendade (though signposted), and at the end of a small lane; but this makes it very quiet and a welcome refuge from the sometimes hectic promenade.

Thoroughly recommended.

Sure, the rooms are a little cramped and covered in canary-yellow, but the cons end there. The beds are comfy, the ac is cold, the breakfast is tasty, the internet works (free!) and the staff are friendly and wonderful.

We drove into Santa Margherita during a downpour with no reservations. I saw the sign for the hotel and quickly ran up the street to ask if a room was available. I was greeted by the owner, who immediately arranged for me to look at several available rooms. I picked the biggest one I was shown (I believe it was a mini suite), which had a sitting area and two comfortable stuffed armchairs. The owner gave me an umbrella so that I could run back to our car and alert my husband that we were all set with a room. The hotel has its own secure indoor parking garage (small extra fee, but well worth it), which was a bonus as street parking is difficult to find. The rooms have simple, modern furnishings, and each of the rooms I looked at had lovely handpainted murals. The hotel offers free satellite TV and wifi and an excellent buffet breakfast with cappuccino made to order. Weather permitting, you can enjoy your breakfast sitting outside in the garden patio. The hotel is just a few blocks from the coastal road and within easy walking distance of the rest of the town. Because the hotel is set back on a cul de sac, it is very quiet.

It is the third time that we stay at the Minerva, so it is about time to write something about this excellent hotel. It is located outside the crowded city center on the slopes of a hill nearby the spectacular Monte di Portofino. The surroundings are quite and the view from the roof terrace lovely. This time, we rented a room nearby the roof-terrace, rather small but modern and nicely decorated in blue-green marine colors. Large double bed, small balcony opening on the city roofs, the Golfo Tigulio and the lower, wooden slopes of the Monte di Portofino, on the right. Wonderful buffet breakfast in a distinguished garden setting (the old family house of the hotel owner's family is on the opposite side of the garden). The director, his daughter, and all the personnel will welcome you in style.
Important: the hotel has a garage which is priceless in such a crowded place as Santa Margherita.

Room Tip: The upper floors are better

I absolutely loved my stay at the hotel Minerva. The hotel is couple of of minutes away from the main attraction but don't let this discourage you. It is about five minutes away from the main street and the hotel has a roof top with an amazing view of St. Margherita (and sunbathing). I booked a room with a view, which was spectacular. The room was clean and fresh, the service was superb, and delicious breakfast. I actually extended by stay at this hotel by one night. I highly recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

Beautiful small hotel, tucked away in a fabulous location - short walk up a small hill from the water and shops. Very welcoming and friendly staff who make you feel at home. Internet available and wonderful buffet breakfast in a gorgeous garden setting. Room was small, but lovely, fresh decor. Would definately stay again at Hotel Minerva in beautiful Santa Margherita. Tip: Hotel within walking distance of train station, about 15 minutes or so if you don't mind walking.
