Fantastic friendly staff.
Upon arrival the manager personally took us to our rooms to ensure our comfort and then showed us other rooms and gave a free upgrade!!.I realize it was a quiet time of year ,however it was a lovely gesture and we were extremely happy with this offer! This was typical of the staffs wonderul attention and willingness to help.
The breakfast was good.
Hotel was clean.
The dinner excellent with both waiters being fastidiously attentive and wonderful to deal with.
Hotel is in great location with panoramic views.
If you are driving, there is a little carpark the hotel owns directly across the road on the water side which makes it easy and convenient to unload in.

This hotel is magnificent! It is excruciatingly beautiful.....the hotel itself....the views of the Meditteranean....the balconies....the food....the service.....the comfort of the beds...and pillows...the breezes......the blue sea.....birds chirping outside the window....
I have stayed here twice.....
and the good looking Italian men at the front desk...they are very very efficient, kind and helpful....I would stay here again and again.....not one thing wrong at all....
and....I got a special deal....three nights for the price of two...a balcony room....

Room Tip: ask for a balcony room on the seaside......

My wife and I stayed for four days at the Miramare during a conference in Sta. Margherita. While the description provided by the organizers mentioned that it was a four-star hotel, in fact we were confronted with a fantastic five star hotel on an ideal location, facing the sea, and not far from Sta. Margherita's downtown district. The staff was extraordinarily helpful; our room (although not facing the sea but the gardens on the hotel's back) was full of light and was extremely confortable. The bathroom was large and well furnished. The breakfast buffet was plentiful and served on a wonderful terrace overlooking the sea. The hotel's period furniture in the common areas was beautiful and classy. We loved to cross the street and enjoy the hotel's beach facilities. Ocassionally we had lunch at a small restaurant on the beach (unrelated to the hotel) where we found very good food. We truly enjoyed our stay, and would love to visit again.

Room Tip: While rooms facing the sea may have a better view, rooms facing the gardens are quieter.

Delightful hotel. The staff was excellent and always helpful. Location is right on the sea. We ate breakfast on our balcony which faced the sea. It was so relaxing. We also left our balcony door open (there is a locking shutter for safety) and went to sleep with the sound of the waves. It is now their slow season and an entire floor of the hotel is being renovated. It is obvious they put a lot of effort in keeping the hotel nice. We were here only one night but would love to have stayed longer. Portofino is a nice 45 minute walk along a nice walkway by the coast or a shirt drive. Worth seeing.

Room Tip: Be sure to get a room with a sea view. It comes with a balcony that is so nice.

This was my 2nd trip to Santa Margherita/Portofino. My first stay was at the Imperial Palace at the south end of the city bordering Rapallo, which was a far more challenging walk to & from the village. The location of the Grand Hotel Miramare is premiere. Breakfast & parking were included in our room rate. A spectacular 2 mile drive north to the tiny city of Portofino & only a 2 minute walk to the very charming and much preferred city of Santa Margherita. On both vacations I found SM to be inherently more charming, with so much more to do & see than it's neighbor, Portofino. Both the Front Desk & Concierge personnel bent over backwards to assist us in making the most of time in Liguria. On Sunday evening when tropical storm Cleopatra hit and the restaurant was closed, the kitchen sent up a waiter with their menu who personally took our order and served perhaps the best cuisine of our 10 day trip. We took a short train ride to the towns of Vernazza and Monterossa in Cinque Terra. Upon leaving we took the higher elevation roads through the Inland Hamlets, passing over Camogli and other astounding views of the Italian Riveria. This area of Italy rivals the much more congested Amalifi and was less than 3 hours from our final destination to Monte Carlo and the Cote d'Azur.

Room Tip: Room 309 is elegant, large and has a long seafront balcony.

We arrived at the hotel after a 5 hour train trip from Cannes, France and felt the fatigue of that journey fall away as we stepped into the welcoming lobby area of Miramare where we were checked in and ushered up to our upgraded junior suite room overlooking the water and the pool. Rooms are sparkling and appointed with lovely Italian antiques. We immediately set off for a Sunday stroll to Portofino, which is a nice walk that begins right outside the hotel and takes about 45 minutes to complete each way. Gorgeous views of the sea and small beaches where locals perch on the rocks to swim and fish. The water is so clear, clean and inviting we finished our stay at Miramare with a swim on the hotel beach--who could have imagined Indian summer would have made this possible!
As other have commented, the Cinque Terre is easily accessible from Miramare by train or by boat during the high season. The boat trip is amazing if you can make that possibility. Due to the mudslides last year some of the walking trails in the Cinque Terre are closed and two of the towns are closed to visitors. Still the amazing spectacle of these small villages, so preserved and intact is one not to miss.
Santa Margherita is a charming town with a beautiful harbor to explore, especially the fish market that begins at around 5 each evening when the boats come in to unload. And then you can eat some of that catch at local restaurants such as L'ampora, where Mario and his mother Maria will cook up some of the best and most local homemade pasta dishes you will ever enjoy.
We wanted to rent a car from SM to go to Monto Rotondo inland and Stephano the concierge made this so easy. The car was delivered to the hotel door, he called our next destination to confirm our reservation, and was full of recommendations for stops along the way.

We visited Miramare in Late October, which is nearing the end of their season. It was so relaxed and peaceful. Summer will have a much different atmosphere I am sure with more guests and the tempo of summer activities. I can't imagine a nicer place to enjoy regardless of the time of year or weather!

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the sea are breathtaking. When the windows are open you can hear the street traffi...
