“Loved it!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 20, 2012 via mobile

After thoroughly reviewing TripAdvisor, we settle on a few restaurant options and ask the concierge for his recommendation. Once we mentioned Zuppa and saw his reaction we were set on dining there. Upon arrival the chef greeted us and offered the day's specials - one of her grandmother's recipes. We were more than delighted with the food and service - had the pear, honey, cheese and bacon appetizer that melted in your mouth; pulled pork stuffed ravioli that was divine; vegetable crusted turbot fish; and could not resist the chocolate cake with citrus emulsion that even had a heart cutout and was so delicious!!! After our bottle of chianti, the waiter treated us to a glass of muscat with dessert - really enjoyed the dessert wine.

We would definitely recommend this restaurant for the amazing food, creativity and service.

“Great grill”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2012

Had a dinner here with family and friends. The service was very good and fast, us being the first ones for dinner. Everything from the grill tasted great. The pasta was a bit of a disappointment, but Even the crema catalana had a smoky crust and a great taste.
Very fast WiFi.

“One of our best meals ever in Italy”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2011

My husband and I both feel that our meal here was one of the best ever in Italy and we have been to Italy a total of 20 times. Like other members mentioned, it is a little hard to find, but it is very very much worth the extra effort (Santa Margherita is not that big so its just a bit off one of the main streets on Via Romana (do not confuse with Via Roma as we did). The prices are very easy on the pocket book compared to our other favorite restaurants in Italy. This was our first time here...and our third time in Santa Margherita. It is a small more intimate restaurant with a homey atmosphere. You could dress up or go casual and be equally at "home."

Those dining seem to be from all over the world and locals so I would surmise it is not just a touristy spot.

We went on a rainy Monday night and at 8p the restaurant was half full. We started with bruschetta (one of the best ever) followed with a special salad of the house (with an amazing cheese). My husband had the special pasta with a to-die-for home made pesto, and I had the sea bass (loop-de-mer wrapped in pastry dough. Both were fabulous. We then decided to share their desert of peaches in a liquor. One of the most delicious deserts we have ever eatten. Of course we had sample some of the region's delicious wines (wines were well priced) and a regional desert wine as a capstone to our fabulous meal. Although we did not try their soup of the day, I heard other diners who had it that it was "out of this world."

We enjoyed our meal so much that we tried to go back on Wednesday night to find that on Wednesdays they are closed.

I can highly recommend this restaurant and am confident that you will have a memorable and most delicious meal here.

“Outstanding”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 25, 2011

My wife and I and two of our adult children had dinner at l"insolita Zuppa on Sept. 20. We found the food and service to be outstanding. Our fish and pasta dishes were excellent and we would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Santa Margherita Ligure.

“Extremely disappointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2011

We visited this restaurant on the basis of the Trip Adviser's recommendations. What a disappointment! We both had the prawns and filo basket with aubergine as a starter (price 13 euros). The dish did not 'hang together' and there were only 3 tiny prawns - large heads but very small bodies; certainly neither value for money nor a particuarly enjoyable gastronomic experience. I had the beef with 3 salts which was good, although not outstanding, while my husband had the crispy fish on a skewer which lacked the crispy coating expected and was at best mediocre. For dessert I had the creme caramel which was actually an OKish but nothing special creme brûlée and my husband had a mediocre ice cream dish. Together with a bottle of wine, the meal set us back 90 plus euros. It was definitely not worth it and we would neither return nor recommend the restaurant to anyone else.
