The walk to the cable cars from the center of town took about fifteen minutes. There were plenty of signs to guide you though the river channel adjacent to the walkway was pretty smelly and overgrown with vegetation and some litter. The cable car ride was eight euros for a roundtrip. The cable cars came regularly about every ten minutes. Be careful of the two hour lunch break as the cars don't run during that time. The ride offers a great view if you can get to the windows as they pack about twenty people in the cab. Once atop the mountain you have to walk another ascending pathway to get up the stairs to the church. The view of the harbor below is breathtaking but only from a limited vantage point at the church plaza. We hiked up the trail further to see some of the religious stations and headed back after an hour. It is a good thing to take the cable car if you want a change in the view. Not much else other than that.
