“One of my favourite views!”

The Splendido has to work hard to match its breathtaking setting - and it succeeds!!
We had a beautiful terrace suite with stunning views over Portofino harbour and the delightful hotel grounds laden with flowers. The suite was luxurious and freshly decorated. It also had the benefit of a small kitchen which was great for mixing drinks and making cups of English tea!
On waking each morning we would throw open our windows and drink in the views.
The main restaurant and poolside restaurant were equally good - the main waiter at the poolside has apparently been at the hotel for 28 years and just oozes charm and charisma. He still clearly loves his job - indeed why wouldn't you?!
The hotel is a 10 minute steep walk to the harbour where we would also recommend lunch at Splendido Mare. A great spot for watching the world go by.
The hotel was very responsive when we asked for some noisy maintenance work on a nearby room to be re-scheduled. We do recognise that it takes work to keep the hotel looking as pristine as it does. This hotel is very well cared for.
We look forward to visiting this hotel for many years to come.

After staying last year at the Il San Pietro in Positano for the same price, I expected something else. That was the most magical hotel I had ever experienced and the room was outrageous. This room was so tiny and the balcony was minute. However, the harbor is quaint and lovely and the area itself is really nice. I cannot say I would go back to this hotel for these prices.
The piano bar is really the attraction where you feel like you went back to another time and place. I know they are renovating their rooms every year but right now its not worth what they are asking for the rooms. I also felt they were a bit snooty there.
Maybe too much hype going in.

I read reviews of the hotel and most negative ones from people who just had lunch. I think you can"t appreciate this hotel only if you have lunch. The view s great but food and service are fine not to expect too much. The overall ambience is very nice if you stay at the hotel, evening meal with view, great pool area. Rooms? We had 2 rooms, one junior suite the other regular room, junior suite was very nice but overpriced, regular room was bad..., very small, dark and uncomfortable for the money we've paid. This is my second overpriced experience with Oriental Express. They have the best located properties and price them very high.

Room Tip: Stay only in rooms with sea view, avoid corner rooms.

I love this fancy hotel. It's great all around. The food, drinks, lounges, pools, rooms, ext. are all great. I love the walk down into the town of Portofino and the harbor with all the boats. And did you know that there is a castle in the town. And we were lucky because we saw them make the Ferrari commercial drive by us and we saw the cars they used. I give this place a 5-Star Rating By Far!!!

We have just arrived back from a 10 day holiday at The Splendido Hotel in Portofino. We had the most wonderful time at this hotel, we've travelled around the world, but this is the best place we've ever stayed in, the staff and service were first class, it is expensive, but you get what you pay for, well worth the money, so if you want superb service along with every luxury, book up now, you wont regret it.

We stayed for 2 nights in early July 2014 in a Garden View room. This largest Garden View room is actually comprised of two rooms - the bed area and a couple steps down into a living area. It's thoughtfully laid out and very comfortable and quiet at the end of a hallway.

The hotel setting is simply stunning. The terraces, the gardens, the pool, the history. We were well looked after from the moment we arrived. The staff is outstanding. Special mention to Antonio (who seems to be a symbol of the hotel, working as bartender, waiter and entertainer), a great pool team with Daniella and Corado, and the entire dinner staff at La Terrazza (so accommodating of personalizing dishes). Loved the amazing fresh seafood at the lunch buffet.

Also, recommend the hotel's sunset cruise with Roberto and team.

Room Tip: The largest Garden View room is on the first floor.
