“Quite possibly the most romantic place on earth”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

I love Portofino! If I ever win the lottery, I would buy a home there! In the meantime, I was lucky enough to eat at the Splendido Mare...My food was so good, I took a picture of it! The location was 10 star, not 5 star. The service was lovely, immpeccable and so friendly!

There are no words to describe the hotel. You almost feel like royalty when you are there. If it sounds too good to be true, you just have to try and go...it's like being in a movie!

My companion and I had such a lovely stay at this hotel it's just a shame we only managed to visit towards the end of the summer and therefore the weather was a little hit & miss, but chilling by the pool on those glorious days was awesome. You can’t fault the location, it is amazingly positioned on a beautiful hilltop with breathtaking views. However a word of warning, avoid taking taxis to & from the hotel if possible, they are ridiculously overpriced.

The hotel room (we stayed in a Junior Suite) was lovely although the décor was slightly old fashioned, for the price we paid per night we expected something a little more special and modern, we felt it was missing the wow factor, not to be said however of the view that we had from our room, that was amazing.

The front desk staff were all very friendly and the young lady that escorted us to our room was very helpful. On a more personal note however,(probably because I work in fashion) I just wondered how such an exclusive property which prides itself on elegance, attention to detail & making an impression would choose to economize and allow their female staff to wear such awful & outdated dark turquoise uniforms with no style and in contrast have the male staff look far more elegant and in line with the exclusiveness of the hotel. It’s about time these uniforms were modernised.

The restaurant atmosphere was lovely and the staff were mostly pleasant, although the service was a little slow at times, the food was delicious but a little overpriced.

If you are able to venture out to this part of the world, overall, you won’t be too disappointed. Portofino town is very picturesque but everything is expensive. When it comes to dining and shopping do also visit Santa Margherita, it’s a lovely little town and more reasonable priced.

Incredible, one of a kind, setting in Portofino. It is a must for lunch when viisitng Portofino, and probably worth a detour if you are boating in the area. Beautiful views in an elegant but relaxed setting. The hotel, and its grounds, are gorgeous.

One tip-- If you are in town and want to visit the hotel, it is best to wait for the hotel shuttle (pick up is behind Splendido's in-town restaurant) which will bring you up to the hotel if you have a reservation for lunch. The taxis will charge you 40-50 euros for literally a 3 minute ride up the hill. If you feel up to it, you can easily walk up the hill, although the walk down is easier.

The hotel location is absolutely amazing. The views are stunning. Amenities are wonderful. Expensive but worth every penny!! If you're planning a trip to Italy, I highly recommend starting or finishing your stay at this unforgettable place, especially if you're romantic and like candlelight dinners - the Italian Restaurant is a must and the staff very attentive to your needs and tastes. The outdoor patio is perfect for a drink before dinner on a beautiful day. The hotel offers a free Shuttle Service to the harbor of Portofino where you have some nice shops and restaurants as well. This has to be one of the msot beautiful hotels we have ever stayed in and I hope to be able to go back. Many thanks to all the staff for our delightful stay.

You are looking for romantic place where to take your woman? This is the place you need to bring her! Everything is fabulous. We came her for 3 nights but we spent 6night. We fall in love this place. View, restaurant, personal. Food is delicious, amazing ravioli, pizza, tiramisu etc. Barmen Antonio is amazing, he is a spirit of the hotel. You will meet him since morning till late night. And time spent in the bar and restaurant listening piano and songs was great. Its really so romantic. All flowers, view to the sea, spa - makes your holidays wonderful. And even if you have problem the personal will help you and take care of you, whatever happen. Thanks so much for General Manager Ermes and all personal for their help when we went to the hospital. You are really great! We will come back next spring...

Any visit to portofino should either start or end with coffee or tea on their panoramic balcony overlooking the harbor. White jacketed waiters, fresh pressed napkins, and shining porcelain.
Harking back to a more leisurely age, just spiffy. But keep your cash in reserve, cuz it don't come cheap.

When we arrived at the Splendido the expectations were very high. Well, everything was perfect, from the valets outside until the housekeeping and the restaurants. Of course it is incredibly expensive but I think in the world there are the five star hotels and then 20 mythical places. The SPlendido is of course part of them.
