“Our Favorite in Portofino”
Reviewed September 6, 2012

Right on the water, a view to die for, food beyond divine. This restaurant was or is on the list of the Accademia della Cucina Italiana. Mario used to be an "Academico", which was fun while we lived in NYC. My sister and brother in law were on a cruise, so we met in Portofino. I made our reservation ages ago, enough so that they laughed at me. Then I confirmed recently. It is always worth it to go to this small, superb little restaurant, not the big ones! In my opinion!

“Worth walking past the rest.”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

Firstly, no where in Portofino will be cheap....when you have £100 million super yachts moored some where it tends to lead to a degree of inflation. O Magazin is located on the left ( if you are standing in the square looking out to sea) side of the harbour. If you aren't looking for it you would probably miss it, which would be a shame. We had a simple dish of pasta with a pesto sauce but it tasted fantastic and the location was wonderful. I would like to return in the evening for a full meal and try more on the menu. Excellent coffee as well.

“Great lunch, great location”

We had the best pasta ever here, the Portifino. Very relaxing by the water. Service was excellent. Would highly recommend.

“Disaster in Portofino”
Reviewed August 4, 2012

We returned to this restaurant for its gorgeous location on the quay.
Summer night with a full moon illuminating the castle Brown, the church of St. George and the still waters of the harbor: wonderful.
A party of four; to begin, we order two spaghettis with squids and two skewers of shrimps and squids. Spaghettis arrive with a sauce too oily and thin pieces of squid (very poor).
After half an hour we urge the skewers ordered by our ladies, they were forgotten. Finally two plates come , but, surprisingly, do not have real skewers, but something similar.
As a second course we accept the suggestion of the waitress and order four slices of tuna on the grill, recommending to cook them shortly to leave them soft and tasty. Half an hour later, we get four thin slices overcooked and dry, just awful. Give up desserts (in self defense) and ask for the bill. They kindly do not make us pay for the grilled tuna, after we questioned the quality.
Thank you and goodbye.
Not just the view and atmosphere, a restaurant also need a cook and a maitre.
As it is, O Magazin is good only for tables of rich Russians and Americans, not for gourmets.

“Great place for dinner, scenic view”
Reviewed August 2, 2012

Great place for dinner, scenic view. Fresh fish and great selection of wines. The price point of EUR 35 for a pure fresh fish filet is a bit high for the value you get - even with the location taken into consideration.
