This hotel is situated as others have said in a little town that you get to on a very windy road. If you have rented a car with manual shift and are comfortable and careful, going to and from is fine. We drove back to the hotel on our 3rd night in heavy rain and I would not have wanted to do that on my first drive but that is what makes the location so wonderful because you truly feel like you're away from it all.
We arrived during the wide arrival window and within our expected arrival time so someone was sort of looking for us and finding the hotel, parking and getting settled in was easy. We had the Blue Room which has wonderful views.
Each morning there was a fresh bread or croissants for breakfast along with yogurts in our mini fridge and other things like water, soda, juice, etc. There is a self-serve cappuccino/tea machine available at all times and as others have said, the views are amazing. I cannot imagine anyone who did their homework would assume this place was close to the beach but it is perfectly adequate to driving to Cinque Terre or else driving to La Spezia and taking the train to Cinque Terre.
The owners were very hospitable and helpful in our planning our exploring of Cinque Terre and on 2 days, they left a bottle of wine for us in the afternoon. I don't think other reviewers realize when they leave a 3 star review, it is like giving an establishment a failing grade and I also don't think people realize how much goes into running a property with only a few rooms. There are many amenities offered here--the mini fridge, even if it were not stocked, would be welcome for chilling drinks or keeping fruit fresh, the bathrooms are clean, the water is hot. I don't know how people can expect all of this for much less than 120 euro. I do think if the room had no view at all, it might be worth discounting but this was absolutely the perfect place for us. We would not have been more pleased if it were the Ritz Carlton.
We will recommend Locanda Tramonti to any friends who visit this area.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- The Tramonti Locanda is a small, charme hotel created in a villa dating from the eighteen hundreds. Situated in the little piazza in front of the Campiglia church, thanks to its rather particular location, it enjoys a splendid view over two seas: the gulf of la Spezia and the open sea of the Cinque Terre villages. From the Locanda, it is possible to go for wonderful walks, immersed in the silence and the intense fragrances of the typical Mediterranean maquis vegetation, right down to the clear, turquoise waters of the Persico and Navone beaches or, following the "crinale" (ridge) pathway, to the towns of Portovenere and Riomaggiore. The Locanda has a suite with solarium sun-bathing area and double bedrooms with terraces and balconies from which, on clear days, it is possible to identify on the horizon the profiles of the islands of Corsica, Capraia, Gorgona and Elba, as well as the Côte d'Azur. ... more less
