The Mary Hotel's sign is the first visible hotel upon walking out of the train station. We were on our way out of the Cinque Terre and had tickets from La Spezia --> Rome the next morning at the crack of dawn. We decided to stay in La Spezia for the sole purpose of staying the night near to the terminal. My boyfriend and I checked in early in the morning (8 AM) but since it was not yet check-in time, we were asked to leave our bags in a very public room while we explored Pisa/Lucca for the day. I wasn't comfortable with it, but there wasn't anything valuable so we hid them behind a TV. There were other bags in there too.
The staff spoke some broken English, confirmed that we had a non-smoking room, and wrote our names down after charging our card. When we returned about 13 hours later, our bags were intact, and we went up the tiny elevator (standard for Europe, I think). Our room was basic yet clean. We had a strong WiFi signal, a hot shower, and a comfortably firm bed. The A/C worked well but the curtains let a significant amount of light in.
I think we were overcharged based on the amenities, but this was made up for in the location/convenience to La Spezia's terminal. A few people talked about the safety of the street, but I considered it a non-issue since this is off a main street directly in front of the train. I felt safe returning at 9 PM that evening.
The breakfast was simple but pretty comprehensive (toast, cereal, fruits, SOYMILK, nutella spreads, etc). Our checkout was simple (hand them the key). Overall, the experience was no more or less than average.
