As other reviewers have described, the hotel is up a very steep and winding road with multiple flights of steps after you reach the parking deck. For us, the magnificent view and surrounding area was worth the challenge to get there, but beware if you are not fit enough to carry your luggage up the steep flights. The host, Fernando is very charming and helpful with maps and specific information abouts things to do in Cinque Terre. The breakfast is good and includes freshly prepared hot croissants. The room itself is quite basic with a very small TV, low power hairdryer and simple individual foil packs of toiletries. While the room was very clean, our bedspread had a large visible stain. The internet link was available in our room only one of the three nights we stayed. We also experienced a clogged shower drain on day one which was promptly fixed by the owner.

you should be aware that finding the property is via an extremely winding & very, very steep road & not for the faint hearted. The steps up to the property outside from the car park are also steep. Our room was again up further stairs making it a real task to take our luggage upstairs. the facilities are very basic, the bed is hard & there was no comfort factor at all, it felt more like a prison cell to us. Despite having a nice view of the harbour the window was small and you had to stand up to see the view. The breakfast was adequate but the food was served in an area set up like a works canteen & we felt slightly uncomfortable having the very nice Fernando sitting at his desk watching his guests eat. It was very odd environment & we would not want to return, despite the place being clean & the owner welcoming this was not enough for us.

Room Tip: There appears to be one room only with an outdoor seating area & patio doors if you must go then...

This is a great place to establish a base for exploring Cinque Terre and Portovenere. Being mid-October, it was the beginning of their off-season. For 2 of the 3 nights we were there, we were the only guests (the Shelley room is wonderful with great views of the water), yet Fernando, the owner, who lives off-property, came in early each morning to prepare our continental buffet. He was very helpful in other ways, e.g., calling in our dinner reservation, coordinating our car drop off at a different location from where we rented it. The facilities are very clean and secure. Although Fernando will pick up guests at the train station, it's really best to visit this place with a car. It would take 30-45 minutes to make the climb up the hill to where Arianna is located. Parking tip: When you approach Arianna from below, enter at the 2nd driveway, then backup so that you can enter the guest driveway going down hill. Otherwise, particularly in a standard transmission, making the tight turn uphill into the guest driveway can be challenging and nerve wracking.

We stayed four nights and found everything just right. Fernando was extremely helpful and Alessia gave us a warm welcome. We would have liked to have been able to make a cup of tea at the end of the day but this wasn't possible. Not all rooms have a fridge but there was no problem using the fridge in the kitchen for chilling the wine, nor borrowing the glasses from which to drink it. Being out of town a little was great, once we had found it, and the view over the harbour with twinkling lights at night was magical. The GPS was upset by the winding road and wanted us to turn around. Highly recommended.

We stayed 2 nights in the Shelley Room and the views from our room and private patio were nothing short of amazing. Our room was spacious, as was the bathroom which had a walk-in shower and hairdryer; the room also had a safe and a tiny fridge. Like most B&Bs we've stayed at, Arianna Hill House's kitchen/dining area is open 24/7 for guest use - we raided the kitchen for a corkscrew and wine glasses our first evening! Fernando and Alessia were extremely helpful, driving us to/from the train station and into town a couple times to catch the bus or train. We attempted to use the bus to get to/from the B&B several times, but due to it's schedule we were never able to catch it. On Fernando's high recommendation, we visited the small town of Portovenere and loved it! Only negative: the reception area isn't manned past 4ish in the afternoon, so there's no one to help with directions/reservations/recommendations. And sadly, we didn't realize a one day advance reservation was needed for the nearby Acadoleo restaurant - and we couldn't get in...however, this is one of many excuses for returning to the Arianna Hill House!

Room Tip: The Shelley Room is probably the biggest and has a huge private patio.

We had an absolutely amazing stay at the arianna hill house. Alessia and Fernando went out of their way many times to accommodate their guests. Alessia greeted us with cappuccino and lemon cake soon as we arrived. The views were beautiful. It is a quiet, peaceful, romantic B&B. very clean! it is an absolute MUST to make dinner reservations in advance at Acadoleo, right up the street. We vacationed for 11 days and this was our best meal of the trip. Only downside of this location, it is far up a hill, need to take a taxi to and from train station, and cinque terre. If the hosts are around, they may offer. If you are a couple looking for some serious R&R, peace and quiet, and romance, this is the place for you.

We hope to come back soon! Kyle and Kate
