“Stop Over”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 19, 2014

Booked a one night stay as my sister and I were embarking on a cruise from Genoa the following day. We are both in our 70's and were shocked when we arrived at this very rundown hotel to find that there was no lift and we were expected to lift 23kgs of luggage up a flight of stairs. There was no one to greet us ,no reception area, then this man appeared, he could not speak English, had no front teeth and was very shabbily dressed. There appeared to be no one else staying at the hotel, and after inspecting the room, we made a hasty retreat. Don't know who or where they got the three star rating unless from a Lucky Bag.

This hotel is good value for money. It is in a good location, it is a short walk to the harbour. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and had plenty of space. There was noise from outside but not at night. The breakfast was nice.

Stayed here for a night before heading to cinque terra - couldn't have done more. Room was very compact and dated. Could hear noise outside and the receptionist didn't speak English. On the positive side it has a great location, close to the aquarium which is well worth a visit.

It says 3 stars, but for me even one is a lie.. just get in yesterday and after 2 minutes I get out immediately.. no way!! I get money back from booking.com after long talking between booking gentle lady service assistance and abrupt receptionist ; first time in over 10 years of traveling!!!

Dangerous, filthy location matches the hotel. Terrible staff, dirty rooms. Elevator for one person only? Keep looking, we paid 80 euro, not worth half that. Completely ruined our view of Genoa.

Run away! The single room was dingy, nothing worked, and there was dust and hair on floors and furniture indicating that it had not even been cleaned. I arrived late at night, so I felt I was safer staying than leaving on foot to find somewhere else. And that would have been the only option, since there was no internet, and my iphone wouldn't work there, either. If your idea of comfort is sleeping in a bed that smells like a chain-smoking, alcoholic man has slept in it for years, go ahead and stay here.

We almost stayed at another hotel, but were to glad to have stayed at the Acquario. It was a great location with good security - the people were courteous, and the rooms were clean and orderly. I think as a traveler it was a good deal and I would stay there again. Also, very close by to the hotel is Trattoria Emma - it's amazing food so definitely give it a try!
