Locanda di Palazzo Cicala
Ranked #70 of 91 Hotels in Genoa

This is the story of a hotel special. When we arrived there we were coming from Monte Carlo by car. The center of Genova is closed to the trafic but you could arrive to your hotel as special service. You have to resolve the laberynth to get there and find the corner of the square where is located, totally hidden without any name, display or sign that could do it easy. When you arrive, from the first floor window,an old man not italian and not english spoken, advice you to wait there, in the street. After that he appears on the main door and request you the ID card and disappear again. Later reappear and say you follow me please. The secret is that the elevator needs a key that you don get until check in, for this reason you did the check in the street, with you lugage.
When you get to the first floor, you doenst see a lobby or reception as usual, there are a small hidden recepcion desk at the end of the corridor in the left side. There they explain where is your room.
The room is like a palace room. More than 35 sqm, ceilling more than 5 meters over the floor. Beautiful cornises on the ceiling, and a new and moderm bathroom into the room. " very big windows and a portable A/C machine, not enough for this room. The furniture is not matcing with the room, it is moderm part of them from IKEA. The breakfst service is just on the hall. Not variated, some good cheese, grapes, croassants and some cold meat.
The location is just in fron of the San Lorenzo Cathedral and close to the Ferrari Square and Palazzo Ducale. Once that you are oriented is good location.

No doubt that this hotel is hard to find - do not even consider trying to find it without detailed directions - but we found a hidden surprise when we finally did arrive. We had booked an apartment to have a bit more room with kids and got a huge property with a private roof terrace and good views - very unexpected. We would typically get 2 hotel rooms for the family and this proved to be less expensive anf 5 times the space, with a kitchen which would be useful for a longer stay. The modern apartment was well located in the old town so near many restaurants, the pier and attractions. As noted, there is no parking in the old town so we parked in the City Park at Piazza Dante, approximately a 5 minute walk. Don't be scared off by some of the other reviews if you are open to something out of the ordinary.

I agree with the review above. I booked a room in Piazza San Lorenzo. We had great difficulty finding the front door. The pleasant receptionist gayly told us we had received an upgrade and then led us off down the street to another building where we were taken to a modern and characterless apartment. If I had wanted this I would have booked it.
I don't like being lied to. We questioned why we were not in Piazza San Lorenzo only to be told we were very near. I said I didn't like the apartment and the woman just asked if the lights and water were working.
I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.

This is one of the weirdest hotel experiences ever. You can't find it, even if you are outside the door, and once buzzed in you still can't find it (unless you have been here before). Then there was no staff outside of a lone receptionish. I had to lug the luggage around....then they gave me a place in another building 200 yards away. The room was ok, but that's all. Maybe a two star hotel, maybe.

Room Tip: don't go to this hotel

We spent a 2-day weekend in this hotel. Well, it may not exactly qualify as a four-star hotel with all of you (it has limited service), but if you are looking for comfortable and recently refurbished rooms / bathrooms in the old city, then this may be a perfect place to start your visit of Genoa. We stayed in an apartment located 5 minutes walk away from the main building, at the 5th floor of a historic building and with a view of the harbor. The aparttment was brand new and spotless.Kitchenette, living room with sofa for extra guests, separate bedroom, lots of storage room, convenient bathroom, and free Internet. We did not do the hotel breakfast but went for capuccino and dulce in one of the many coffee shops in the neighborhood. After checking out, we asked for a capuccino as we waited for friends; it was complimentary. A nice touch indeed.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the spacious apartment facing the harbor that is located in another building

The hotel is ideally situated in the heart of Genoa in a beautifully restored old building that has maintained all its original charm. The staff is exceptionally nice and accommodating and the hotel is comfortable and clean…I truly recommend it.

Hotel is located in old Palazzo. Access is trough slippery outdated, unlighted black marble stair case, very dangerous when raining outside. I had the occasion to fall in it to confirm.

Reception is modern but upholstery is not very clean as breakfast in the lobby on the sofas, in the morning. The bedrooms in main building are small, recently refurbished (not the bedroom doors) with Hermes soap in bathroom but 2cm of dust in AC ceiling in the bathroom. No bath tub but only ceiling shower and no shower cap for women (check with your wife to see what I mean).

The bed is OK. What looks like a PC screen in the table is in fact TV screen. No way to watch TV with head on the pillow with such a small screen (see picture).

Hotel propose some flat that we have not seen. May be that the solution but a bedroom in the Palazzo is not the be recommended.

Overall 2 star hotel if you are familiar with international standard Hotel. Noisy in the morning but this is because it is centre Genova.

Positive: Staff was very nice and helpful for all demands, nice breakfast with very good italian ham

Room Tip: Do not book a room in main building. Ask for the flat outside?
