“Nice old-building hotel, good value!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2010

Nice hotel in 19th century building, with ancient lift, small, closes at 1 p.m. Excellent location. The only problem, is that it's not quiet due to heavy traffic even at nights. But f you don't care, tthen you can go there. Very good hotel for this price.

This is the best hotel in the cathegory I´ve ever stayed in! I have no clue why it has only two stars... The room was perfectly clean, very comfortable bed, new furnitures and it had a beautiful old painting on the ceiling! Personalized air conditioning. Although it is situated on a very frequented shopping street, there was almost no noise from the street, so we could sleep very well. The guy at the reception is extra helpful, he will look up any information for you, recommend restaurants and places to go to the seaside. We prefered to have a coffee and brioche in a bar down in Via San Vincenzo than the costly hotel breakfast. Firstly I was thinking about staying in Hotel Balbi, but it had worse reviews and it´s situated close to an immigrants quater, so not very pleasant. And last but not least, I love with Genova!

I chose this hotel based on the TripAdvisor reviews and was not disappointed at all. Very good price, very good location, extremely clean rooms and hospitable staff.

The only bad thing in my room was that it was a bit noisy. It looked at Via San Vincenzo and the locals started life a little early in the morning. Actually, they started cleaning the street at around 5 o'clock. However, after I closed the window, it was not disturbing at all.

Very good job Hotel Soana!

Staff were beyond helpful. They went beyond to assist in programming the cell phone I had purchased in Italy (whose instructions were in Italian.) Rooms have everything you need, but are not huge, merely functional. Breakfast was served with care and was more (and better) than you get at most hotels of this calibre. Walking distance to almost everything- if you stay here, get off at the other train station in town, not the main one. It gives you a 5 minute walk, instead of a walk to the subway, and then a bus.

Stayed here for 2 nights with a mate for a weekend citybreak in Genoa. This place was perfect. Really well located right in the centre, basic but very clean and nice friendly staff. The only downside was a curfew which meant we had to be in by 1am on Friday night and 2am on Saturday night, which slightly derailed the evening just when things were getting busy in the bars! But I couldn't fault this place. Ideal if you're looking for good value.

We stayed two nights. The main reason for visiting Genova was for the Staglieno Monumental Cemetery (photos of which, coincidentally, grace the hall leading to the rooms). A five minute walk to the bus station and a twenty minute ride got us there quickly, and our hosts had alternate bus routes for us if we wanted to board a bus nearer to the hotel. (If you go to Genoa, you absolutely MUST make the cemetery part of your visit, and expect to spend at least a half-day there.)

The location really could not have been better for us, since we knew virtually nothing about Genova before arriving. There was plenty for us to discover nearby on foot, including the market just a couple of blocks away, many visually appealing buildings, and numerous interesting shops, both on Via XX Settembre as well as the pedestrian-only street that our room overlooked.

Staff was very hospitable, too. One congratulated us on our anniversary, which I had mentioned in my first email message to them, so it was nice that they recalled.

Internet was €1 for an hour (that you don't have to use all at once), and they have a fridge filled with goodies as well.

hello, my wife and i had three nights in the soana hotel genoa ,we thought genoa was lovely so many beautiful buildings and squares of course the warm weather makes it even more enjoyable,,,,now ,,,the soana hotel,,,its not posh its very basic but its in a beautiful building right in the centre of town sorounded by shops restaurants etc etc ideal if you are on holiday, its kept very clean and tidy by very pleasant polite staff ,previous reviewers have mentioned the old fashioned lift ...its grand its in perfect working order not a problem at all.the hotel is on the third floor of this building the lower floors are occupied by dentists etc etc daytime only.the room i had which i think is the same as the rest of the rooms in the hotel was big enough say 25 sq metres, the furniture is old but it works, separate bathroom shower no bath toilet washand basin all very clean , one thing i should mention is the shredder they have to use for the waterflow down the loo, basically its an electric device that stops any blockages downpipe but the noise it makes each time you flush the loo does take a bit of getting used to...all in all id say this is excellent value if you are only going to be in your room for sleep.
