“Completely spoilt by all the grubby tourist tat!”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

Sorry but it just didn’t do it for us! It’s full of fake stuff, rubbishy souvenirs, pushy vendors, litter and general tourist tat. There are a lot of grungy touristic restaurants too. Also a major elevated roadway cuts right across the port – spoiling the view back to the old town. There are some impressive boats – but no more impressive than in any other Mediterranean port.
We went for a one hour boat trip to ‘view the working harbour of Genoa’ – tickets 6 euros each sold just near the aquarium. That was a bit of a joke – the catamaran was old and dirty, there was a commentary of sorts (only in Italian) and everyone on board looked as if they couldn’t wait to get off!

“Not for recreative tourism”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

Not attractive, not much to see.
Genova is a commercial port, its people are really fantastic, but it is not a recreative tourist destination.

“Total waste of time”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

As some reviewers stated Porto Antico is a total waste of time. Little food or restaurants on offer and prices well over priced. The area is swarming with illegal immigrants selling copied products. The Glass globe with plants in it was closed and glass dirty not really an attraction to drag anyone in. The aquarium over priced, and the uneven pavements caused many to trip due to different levels of concrete. It appears they have started something on a grand scale ran out of money and left it half done. I truly would not recommend anyone to go there.

“A lot of potential but needs attention”
Reviewed August 24, 2013 via mobile

The natural port and surrounding hills offer a hint to why this old pet exists. Modern touches are a good start but it still feels just a touch dodgy with some incomplete projects and people aggressively hawking cheap wares.
Highlights: the views, people watching, Eataly food emporium, Citta del Bambini science museum.
The aquarium is good but not great. The rest is not memorable.
