Porto Antico (old Port) is one of the place where one can see large cruise and can feel the excitement of if he could be on that. Yes, these cruise sail from porto antico to differnet places and most of them are for leisure only. There is also place to sit and relax (benches are there) as well if you want to spend some time with your beloved. Apart from that, there are many pubs and bars nearby where life starts building as the day passes and is in complete swing by night. During the day, you can spend at least an hour and half without any problem and enjoy life.

Not impressed. The main reason is the luck of security. There are huge amount of some kind of vendors who behave themselves very aggressive even at the day light. While waiting to buy tickets to the Oceanarium at about 10 AM I even saw some of the vendors really pushing an Italian lady who started screaming at him. No police in sight. Oceanarium itself is just OK. The best part of the place is the open seating café we found (and went there three times). It is on the first floor under some big grocery store right on the seafront and has wonderful service and food like seafood and pizzas. It is also open during the day hours when all other restaurants in the area are shot down.

I traveled into Genoa twice , spending a day and overnight about 2 weeks apart in early June. The weather was sunny , with ideal temperatures and walking around the port area both times was wonderful. I had lunch one time and dinner another in restaurants at the port , with its open , attractive public spaces. It also has a nice variety of shops and places to get gelato too. I think the big aquarium is a must see also. The location serves as an easy start for a walking tour into the interesting and historic old city just up from the Porto Antico.

Genoa in itself is a nice city but the port is what makes it special. There are boats of every shape and size from fishing boats to 4 story yachts. There are a few cute restaurants along the pier, but beware if you take a bench to relax on or grab a bite to eat, there are lots of sellers that like to heckle.
