“Very pleased for a short city break”
Reviewed October 31, 2012

Stayed at the Meuble Suisse in October 2012, young couple in our early twenties. The hotel is on the 3rd floor in a building on the main road, we werent sure what to make of the hotel at first whilst walking up to the floor, there is a lift but it is very old looking and neither of us wanted to use it at first, but we eventually did and its absolutely fine :) Was greeted by a lovely man on reception who showed us to our room, the decor is not great but do not have a bad word to say about the room, the cleanliness was superb through our 3 night stay. We had booked the room with a shared bathroom which we were worried about but neither of us saw enyone else use the bathroom during out stay, again it was amazingly clean all of the time.

We had a fair bit of rain throughout our stay in Genoa and had wet clothes/shoes, the heating for some reason did not work in the hotel but the kind man on reception said that he would get a electric heater for our room, when we came back the next day as promised we had a heater.

Would stay here again, perfect for a few nights in the city, great service, comfy beds and good location for getting around Genoa.

Room Tip: Payment for the room is taken when you leave, also there is 1€ city tax per person per night

Enjoyed our stay very much. We had a nice big room, very comfortable, clean, with good AC. Appreciated the Reception's help and concern for our comfort. Would most definitely stay at the Meuble Suisse again and will recommend it to others. Thanks for everything!

we had 2 rooms in July for 5 people. it is a perfect budget hotel, big rooms, good beds and showers, very clean, well located and the most helpful and friendly gentleman at reception night and day, giving indications and advice, printing maps etc.
It is a bit awkward to get right in front of the hotel by car (ignore the no traffic sign..) but the carpark pedestrian exit is actually just opposite the road in the coin supermarket, the entry to the carpark is in via I.frugoni, a bit awkward if you have a big car..
There was no real breakfast available during our stay but then we preferred taking it on a terrasse anyway.

Located in downtown, this hotel is a great choice. Clean, neat, spacious and well-priced, we really enjoyed our two nights here. Only problem areas: it's a bit difficult to find and parking is not easy. The hotel is one of several in a 4,5 story bldg and the elevator is small, but efficient. Get to the hotel first, and the extremely kind and helpful receptionist will explain where to park the car. We loved it!

The location of the Hotel was perfect and all of the tourist attractions were in an easy reach. The hotel staff was extremely kind. We had a wonderful view along Via XX Settembre. The breakfast and indeed that cappuccino!.. Thank you for everything. We would definitely like to come back.

Room Tip: choose one of the two rooms with Via XX Settembre view!

We loved everything about the Meuble Suisse - the gentleman owner was so kind and helpful, we gave us anything we needed and more. A fresh hot pot of tea on arrival at 10pm, freshly warmed croissants in the morning, maps and directions all with a smile. Our room was comfortable, cosy and warm and we slept well.

It's a little difficult to spot at first, near the large old bridge midway along Via September 20, and only a sign on the wall outside tells you. Go in, jump in the brilliant old lift and follow the signs.

We will definitely stay here again, Genova is a good place to visit, and the countryside around the area worth seeing, especially Cinque Terre.

The manager really made my stay here exceptional - I was going on holiday with my partner to celebrate my birthday, and I had deliberately tried to choose a hotel where we could just close the door and be anonymous. Our last hotel was in Morocco, and it was only us and the manager, and he tried to treat us like family... which in my case reminded me of staying with my mother ('when are you coming back, so I can have food ready?' 'what time do you want to be woken up in the morning?' 'I'm going out shopping, how long are you going to be so I can be at home to let you in?'). I was a little disappointed to find out that Meuble Suisse was more of a series of converted rooms in a huge apartment, with the manager at the front desk, than a big anonymous hotel. But he absolutely made our trip. He was a wealth of information, without being intrusive. I heard him speak at least 4 different languages, including English and Russian. And he seemed to be there at all hours, without ever getting grumpy! We asked for advice on where to eat, and he recommended a fantastic restaurant just around the corner (Heston-Blumenthal-meets-Italian-country-kitchen!). When we said we might try it on the Sunday, he gently pointed out that it would be closed on Sunday, but without being bossy. (I was so upset it was closed on Sunday and Monday, I would have eaten there every night of the trip!)
The location of the hotel is superb - on the main shopping street, and just along from the train station. This makes this a perfect stop-over for trying out the Cinque Terre walks. The rooms are quiet, despite being on the main road.
The bathrooms are a bit exciting - they are on the small side, but all en-suite. DON'T turn off the pump for the toilet though (to reduce the noise), and forget to turn it back on before having a shower :) I did end up up to my ankles in shower water! But this is fairly standard for Continental hotels.
The hotel is up a number of stairs, but there is a lift, and the apartment building is full of character inside, despite it's somewhat bland exterior.

Definitely would go back there!
