We very much enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We rented one of their basic rooms and although it was a touch too warm (without the ability to lower the temperature), it was very comfortable and had a great bed. Breakfasts were fantastic with a wide variety. They even had an egg/omelette maker who made eggs to order. Parking was an additional €24 per day and they provided valet parking. It was walking distance into the main part of town. We would definitely stay here again.

I stayed 3 nights at the GHS, comparing the price paid with the services provided and the quality of stay in the hotel, I should say, it represents a bargain. The rooms are decent sized and decorated in a retro style, is clean and quiet. The buffet breakfast is really good but the coffee is not good at all. (Ask the waiter fresh coffee from the bar)The reception staff is not friendly but helpful. The restaurant is serving food from the next door restaurant under the hotel and is also good. It is located in front of the Principe train station and stop for airport buses.

Just across the road from the station 6 euros on the airport bus or 23 euros by taxi from the airport. Our room was very clean, the addition of a kettle was a nice surprise and not what you expect in Italy. We had booked room only and paid extra for breakfast which was well worth the money. We were shocked to see dogs in the dining room. It was only a short walk into the old town and we simply loved Genoa.

I really liked this hotel. From the time you step inside you feel like you have gone back to the 1930s. Really feels old world, but has all the mod things of course like wi-fi, revamped (but small) bedrooms, nice bathrooms etc. Although the bedrooms are small, they are comfortable with good bed, and design that harks on the heritage of the hotel with screen prints of old Genoa covering the wall behind the bed. The breakfast buffet is large and really good. reception staff are variable but overall pretty helpful. The only thing that was slightly annoying was the music played in the hallways, as when there is an event it gets really loud and they do not seem to be able to turn it down as they crank it up for the reception rooms.
The meeting rooms up on the top floor have amazing views across Genoa, and so make sure you go up there even if not going to a meeting.
I like the hotel a great deal, very comfortable, great location to walk into the old town and also down to the port area where the museum, aquarium etc is.

Room Tip: get a room facing the front, as rest of rooms look into back of buildings

I did a quick trip to Genova to revisit the city that I had once lived in 12 years ago. Grand Hotel di Savoia is well known as one of the best hotels that the city has to offer so I was looking forward to my visit.

Located conveniently near Principe main station, the hotel is a 10 minute walk down Via Balbi to the main city centre. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The room was compact, had a very comfortable queen bed with lovely luxurious bedding as you would expect from 5 *. The bathroom and the room were spotlessly clean.

The standard of decoration was extremely high as were the facilities in the room. The room itself appeared to be quite dark but you needed to open up the blinds to get some good light in and lower them again at night.

I did not eat in the hotel restaurant. There are lots of cafes and bars down the length of Via Balbi that you can have breakfast in. There is a small trattoria in close proximity to the hotel across the road in Via Balbi as an alternative to the hotel. However, although the prices were reasonable, I did not find the staff very friendly (and I am an Italian speaker!!)

The hotel provided an excellent, peaceful and very comfortable base for visiting the city. I will definitely stay there again and would recommend it to other travellers. I cannot comment on the breakfast of the hotel or the spa as I did have time to experience them this time around.

This hotel is located only meters away from the main train station in Genoa which is very convenient. We arrived at 13.35. The lady at the reception copied our passports but told us that our rooms were not ready until 14:00 so we waited in the lobby and went back 30 minutes later. She couldn't remember who we were and had lost our records. So we waited another 30 minutes and she finally found them and we were issued our Keyes. When we went to the room on the first floor we found a Hugh room with 5 beds. We were only 2 adults and one child! So we went back and she said this wasn't our room and was someone else. We had waited all along for a wrong room to become ready for us! We finally had our Keys to our room at 3.30 almost 2 hours after we arrived and you realise that if you are in a hotel for only 20 hours (we check out the next morning to get our flight) you don't want to spend 2 hours waiting in the lobby!
The view from room on the six floor is beautiful and it is really a 5 star hotel. Spa was great and plenty of breakfast which was great. But again the reception staff attitude don't match the 5 star quality. They need proper training as how to speak to costumes and apologise if they made mistakes and try to make it up to the costumer. We found the rude and arrogant. However once you finish with the reception and in your room you will enjoy your stay. Choose the vroom on higher floors.
