Plus:
- conveniently located (very close to Brignole train station, the expo area is within walking distance);
- big, clean, silent and comfortable rooms (although, looking at some of the electronic equipment installed, they haven't apparently been renewed since the 80s);
- gorgeous hall.

Minuses:
- staff unprofessional and not particularly friendly;
- free Wi-Fi in the shared areas only;
- the restaurant is a joke: priced as a top-class restaurant (I ended up spending nearly 40eur for a tasteless steak, some green beans, a bottle of water, and a coffee), delivers well below average service and food quality.

My second trip to Genoa, and my second stay here. If in Italy, if in doubt - stay at a StarHotel. I was checking in late (23.00pm) and had requested a quiet room (for 3 nights). Which was exactly what I got. On the 11th floor this time - they put me on the 10th last time. "Ah yes, you were here in 2006" said the receptionist at that time of night. That may be an impressive IT system, but it was done with a personal touch. That November in 2006, it had been so wet that the only way to get around the city was in squash pumps (sneakers) - which the hotel kindly put through their drier every evening. Free. This time, September 2013, the same level of friendly service applied. Everyone at the front desk was friendly and helpful. Don't worry about the location being next to the train station or a main road - the rooms are superbly soundproofed. I couldn't hear a murmur. Rooms are fine, beds so comfortable.The hotel may cater mainly to the business market, but the individual traveller is treated exactly like that - as an individual. First class. I wanted help on buying a ticket to a football match there, and they were only to happy to oblige. Whoever is managing the place deserves a lot of credit. Grazie mille.

Room Tip: My prime requirement in any hotel is a quiet room. Twice I have asked for one here, and twice I have...

We spent three days in Starshotel President before boarding a ship for a seven nights cruise. We found the staff to be willing to do the bare minimum to help with our queries. A week later when our money travel card was overdrawn, we found that Starshotel President had billed us twice. We are in Rome now and trying to fix the problem, by phone is proving very difficult. I am not sure whether this is an honest mistake, caused by incompetence, or dishonesty on their part.

A few steps from the Brignole railroad station and from many bus stops this modern hotel has large sized room , well appointed bathrooms large marble common area and an efficient front desk. Breakfast up to par but not exhilarating. If you get there by car DO use the hotel parking even though there is a charge because it is almost impossible to park around the hotel.
Many good restaurants not too far.

Me and my other half went for a short city break in Genova and stayed in one of the superior rooms at the Starhotels president. Overall it was a pleasant experience...

The good points:
We had a beautiful view from the room of the Genovese ancient buildings
The breakfast was of a good standard
Waiters/waitresses always welcomed us with a warm smile in the morning and were at hand whenever we needed them
Rooms were very clean
Extremely comfortable beds
Hotel had a nice exterior and interior
And the hotel was centrally located to the Brignole Train Station which is convenient to travel to and from different regions

The bad points:
The reception staff were quite rude and obnoxious at times and spoke marginal English.
The nearest beach from the hotel was around a 30 minute walk.
And lastly the minibar. Of course it is normal to be charged to refill the minibar however upon arrival we were not made aware of how much this would be. We had drunk a couple of bottles of water and one juice bottle per day and were charged 30 euros every time the maid had cleaned the room. As we had booked a superior room the room description on the website said "enjoy refreshments and snacks from your minibar" however, it did not note in small print that this would be of a surcharge, so please watch out for this.
As I have said previously it was overall a pleasant stay and would recommend anyone to travel to Genova looking for a quiet relaxing stay.

*If you are looking for a good night out (especially Thursdays) do take a trip down to Bocadassi Sporting bar as they have a beach party quiet frequently open until 4 in the morning, playing European house and dance music.

Thank you for reading.

We were placed in a much smaller room than we booked, which was extremely noisy. We asked to change to room, and we were placed in another one, which turned out to be below the floor which was under reconstruction, so, we got more noise. We had to change the room for the second time, and this time it was better, but still, the noisiest hotel I've ever been. The breakfast is a disaster, very poor selection of food, and the cooked options were hardly eatable. it took forever to get the bread toast, and you had to ask the waiter to do so, since there was no toaster in the breakfast room.
Overall, I would not recommend this hotel to anybody.
