We are staying at the best Western hotel, and had seen good reviews about this place, so we gave it a try. We ordered 1 starter, 2 main courses and 2 separate portions of chips. After the normal wait for cooking, 1starter arrived (mussels) with 1 main course plus 2 portions of chips. The mussels were not fresh and the seared beef was barely warm.
These meals were eaten but not enjoyed. My wife's main course arrived later. We decided to skip desserts but were given 2 lemonchellos on the house that were very rough. Would not go back.

La Rune is the hotel restaurant at the Best Western City. After flying for 17 hours, we were so tired after checking in we just decided to walk downstairs and eat at La Rune. It was the best. The set up is a bit awkard with the restaurant being situated on various levels. The woman that waited on us friendly and helpful. She let us walk thru the rooms and select our table. I ordered the local pasta with pesto (the pasta is shaped like small figure 8's). A very simple, but delicious dish. My husband ordered the mixed grill plate that was fantastic, the meats were cooked perfectly. The dish included some grilled veggies, also cooked to perfection. The bread basket was yummy and we usually dont eat the bread. The best bread sticks and handmade rolls. The starter of La Spezia mussels were equally fantastic.

Wow – the best meal we have had for some time. Not cheap (by our standards) but still felt it was great value. Restaurant is part of the Best Western City Hotel and has several small rooms split across 3 or 4 floors. I had the steak with courgettes. The steak was cooked to perfection & I even ate the courgettes…I made it last as long as I could…melted in the mouth. My partner had Mustard Pork…equally as good. We had the surprise “taster” pudding. We asked the waiter what is was…he said he didn’t know because the chef wouldn’t tell him…it’s a surprise. So we gave it a shot...it was perfection which I wont spoil for you…just do it!
After spending most of the evening talking to a very nice couple from the States (hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip as much as we did we ended up on our own in one of the rooms and lingered for some time over the pud/wine/disarrono chatting. We were left to our own devices which was great (even romantic!) but when we wanted to leave we had to go chase the bill and paid at the desk, which was no big deal as it was on the way back to the hotel, but because of this we forgot to leave a tip on the table. We feel embarrassed about this as the service, especially our waiter, was fantastic. So apologies to the team for not leaving a tip as you deserved one.

It has a great location with only a few steps away from Piazza de Ferrari. We picked Le Rune for the last dinner in Genoa, because of good reviews and it's close location to our Hotel (Best Western). The atmosphere was friendly, personnel was helpful with the menu, and the food was great. Lasagne Nero was definitely out of this world!

A lovely restaurant, serving excellent food with a smile (in English and French too). Such a relief to find a good place open on Sunday evenings!
