Upstairs can get hot. And loud. It's always mobbed at lunchtime. The service is erratic. The food is fantastic and the value is the greatest. Go early for lunch. They run out of a lot of stuff towards the end. Best to know a bit of Italian.

Highly recommend this place. It has a typical ligurian character with local specialities like pasta with pesto, fried fish and very good desserts!

Tables crammed with hungry diners, lawyers sat next to construction workers, all here for the simple, delicious food from a small menu. I loved it!

It looks pretty basic, but don't be put off! We were sat at a bench with an Italian family and a fantastic Belgian biker, served by a waitress who did her best to be chatty in English and recommended food for us. It really was a fun evening!

I'd been at a conference eating at some rather pricey restaurants all week, and I can safely say Trattoria da Maria beat them hands down for quality of food. The atmosphere was a real welcome change too. The pasta was fantastic, and my boyfriend had a massive pile of mussels! The homemade tiramisu... looked homemade but OMG tasted fantastic!

Okay it isn't a swish expensive place, but it has a good atmosphere and great people, real people. You won't see many people in suits in here. This is all a good thing. The food is great. I had 3 courses which were Long pasta in Bolognese (though you should probably ask for the Ravioli instead). Then followed this with a large plate of clams and finally followed it with their tiramisu. All excellent. Elsewhere it says it isn't fresh? It was fresh enough for me and was a fraction of the cost of eating elsewhere, We washed this all down with a litre of red between 2 of us and the price was so reasonable we could eat here nearly 3 times for the price of eating at 'i Tre Merli', including the wine. The woman from Naples running this place has a great character and is very pretty and also spoken for! Much to the dissapointment of all the men visiting, me included ;-)
