“Good value, if you don't mind trains.”

We chose Vernazza Rooms because of Rick Steve's recommendation and our budget. Roma 2 was very clean with cute art on the walls. Room had a hot water pot and small fridge, but missed a coffee maker. Barbara, the daughter of the owner, met us at the train station and let us deposit our luggage early. The terrace makes the room--we stayed in Roma 2, which accommdated our family of five. The place was steps from the train station. We heard the train during the day, but not at night. It's a very short walk to the beach and main square. Apparently, the Blue Marlin Bar is below but it was still closed from the mudslides. Not sure how that would affect the noise.

My wife and I primarily spend our vacations out and about exploring and visiting local sites so our sole purpose for hotels is to find somewhere safe, clean, and comfortable where we can sleep and shower. We look for basic no frills places to stay that are centrally located and affordable.

The San Francesco Rooms of Vernazza Rooms met our needs. We stayed in two separate rooms during our stay in September of 2010. They were clean, well situated, comfortable, and affordable. The rooms were small, but not anything smaller than most of your standard rooms in Europe. There was a bit of stair climbing to get to the San Francesco rooms but nothing that most people can't handle. The rooms had no AC but none was needed when we went there as the temperature outside with the sea breeze made the rooms very cool. However this usually means you will need to keep the windows open. The train tracks are close by so you definitely hear the train going by with the windows open. This did not keep us up by if you feel you may be bothered by the noise you may want to stay somewhere closer to the main plaza and harbor away from the train tracks. Also be aware of the weather because if it rains, water can easily get into the rooms with the windows open. We had a pile of clothes next to the window which got completely soaked after a night of rain. It was completely our fault, but just something to be aware of. Also we had a problem with flies coming into the room due to the open windows.

The hotel does not have a central lobby where you check in. Instead someone met us at the train station and took us to the room. This required a little bit of advanced planning with the owner and it definitely helped that we had a cell phone with a local SIM card that facilitated meeting the person who took us to the room,

I think most of the hotels in the area are of this type. I think part of the charm of the Cinque Terra is that there are no "big" hotels. For someone use to hotels in the USA with check in lobbies it was a bit of a change for us, especially as it was our first stop in our Italy trip. A very basic place to stay that was affordable but which I would definitely recommend.

We stayed in Room 1 at S. Francesco. First, the rooms are small. I believe they compare similarly to a lot of the places throughout Cinque Terre, but just know you won't have a ton of room. Hopefully you've packed lightly anyways. There shower gives you just enough room to wash off and that's it. Those are the only negatives though. The bed was comfortable after a day of hiking and we even had a small refrigerator. The room was cleaned daily. Our place had a private terrace that overlooked the town and water, which was amazing! It was so easy to relax in the evening. You can see the train tunnel from the terrace, but that never bothered us. Trains come by throughout the day, but the noise was never too much for us.

Beside the room, the owner and family are nice and responsive. David met us at the train station and carried my girlfriend's bag, which was very courteous! He spoke decent English so he could answer some of the questions we had upon arrival. The location was great because it was a short walk to the train station and also to the center of town.

Be aware that Vernazza is still rebuilding from the landslides last year. Because of this, there is no market to buy fresh foods and there isn't a working ATM yet. That shouldn't deter you from visiting this colorfully enchanting town. The people were wonderful and you're only a 5-minute train ride to anything you can't get. I can't wait to return here again.

Vernazza Rooms was a wonderful find. Davide was there to meet us off the train which was a lovely touch. Our room was spacious (family of 4) and beautifully clean (and cleaned each day - so nice to return to) and as the weather was kind to us at the end of April, we were able to enjoy sitting on the balcony at the end of the day enjoying the view and sunsets. The room was value for money. Please note: the rooms are not too far from the train station (room was still quiet) nor up too many steps to reach it. The people of Vernazza are so amazing and have done an incredible job rebuilding their town after the floods. Such a lovely community and couldn't be more helpful. Thanks Daria and Davide and hope to return soon.

Our last minute weekend trip to Vernazza was contingent upon finding a place to stay. Options were limited due to the catastrophe last fall. Daria responded to our request right away. When we arrived in Vernazza, Davide was there to greet us and show us the way to the room...down a little alley and then up some stairs to a secluded loft with great light. The rental has a balcony with an extra outside shower, sliding glass doors that keep out all sound, and a nice view of the hillsides. The room was perfect in every way. We were lucky that it was available for our weekend. We left Vernazza during a train strike, which meant 1) hike out or 2) call a taxi and pay a ton. Daria and her daughter offered us a ride to La Spezia, an example of their generosity and kindness. From there, we were able to find a train going north. They made this weekend a success for us...so grateful for finding them. I highly recommend their rentals. They have many room choices, but we stayed in Roma's Rooms #1. I also recommend going to Vernazza, despite the fact that they are in the middle of restoring the town. It's a really special place.

We stayed at Vernazza Rooms just days before the catastrophic floods and landslides devastated the Cinque Terre. Our room was small with an very small shower, but it was comfortable and clean with a decent bed. Daria, Barbara, and David are delightfully friendly and very accommodating and we would definitely stay there again. Be prepared for LOTS of stairs! But you're going to the Cinque Terre where everything is either uphill or downhill and the stairs are not a big deal as you walk your way through the maze of hundreds of years old buildings going to and from your room.

To start off I can’t say enough nice things about the people of Tuscany and there food. The apartment we had was supper clean and kept that way during are stay, had a great view, but was a seven and a half story walk-up. David was there to carry are bags to the room, I tried to help him with the load but he carried them all, which I was glad he did when we did the walk-up. Everybody mentioned train noise, there was none, possibly because the place is built with solid stone walls? Now for a few tips, if you think you would like to enjoy the view from your balcony and have some wine, the liquor store across the street loans out glasses with a purchase. If you have to use the washroom and you think you will use the one at the Vernazza train station, you are in for a very unpleasant surprise. Almost every time you travel on a train you have to take your ticket and time stamp it yourself, depending on the conductors mood the fine can be large so be nice to the conductor, it is my theory that this is how they finance the conductor pension fund.
