“Gorgeous views, loved Cinque Terre”
Reviewed August 23, 2011

We got a little lost on the way to the hotel but managed to find it and hiked up all the stairs. They were a little scary with our backpacks, but we didn't fall all 3 days we were there, so no problems to report! The view was incredible from our balcony and from the bedroom window. There was also room on an extra rooftop terrace but we never used it because we liked the privacy of our own little balcony best of all. It was fanastic, we enjoyed hiking and relaxing, watching the sunset and drinking wine. It was a great stop on our honeymoon.

I have only one small complaint, and that was with the cleanliness of the place. It was relatively clean, but not exceptionally clean. The fridge had hair and dirt in it and I spent the first few hours cleaning and double checking that things were okay. The towels and sheets seemed fine, but they were not the bright white of most hotels, instead they were coloured - which in some ways seemed cozy and cute, and in other ways I wanted to be assured that any leftover germs and hairs from the last guests had been bleached and washed away.

Overall Cinque Terre was incredibly beautiful and we loved the area. Make sure you try minestrone soup, made with lots of pesto, and ravioli with walnut cream sause at Sandra's.

We stayed at the Elisabetta at the beginning of July with our 2 sons for 4 nights. We absolutely loved this place!! As many reviewers have stated, the views are amazing! Personally, when I book a hotel, it is all about the views for me and not so much about the inside of the room as we are rarely inside!

We arrived to find a large, spacious apartment with a pull-out bed downstairs for the kids and a double bed upstairs. We also had a kitchenette that had a fridge for drinks, a kettle and a few plates...not enough to cook a full meal there if that is what you wanted to do but we found amazing restaurants (La Pirate at the entrance to the town from the car parking lot...can't say enough great things about this restaurant...amazing pastries for breakfast, incredible food for lunch and dinner, as well as Il Torre which is on the path to the Cornigula just a bit higher than the hotel...great food and views!).

The bathroom was on the smaller side and every time someone had a shower, everything got all wet as the curtain was quite small but we have found that to be the norm in most places in Italy and in Europe in general. The bed was on the hard side, but again, that seems to be the norm in Italy!

There are quite a few stairs to climb but they were very manageable and not a big deal if you know in advance that you will need to climb stairs. We loved Vernazza and were glad we had picked this town to stay in. Our boys loved taking the boat from town to town although we did hike between Vernazza and Monterosso...brutal hike but what a great sense of accomplishment when we were done! There is not Wi-Fi in the hotel but our boys found that by sitting on the steps outside of the hotel, they were able to find Wi-Fi out there.

They were just finishing the renovations outside of the hotel and the first morning we arrived, the men arrived to take town the scaffolding at 8:00am...not the best wakeup call but this is a real town where real people live so you have to expect that is will not be a silent place to stay.

The roof top terrace was the highlight for us and we spent all of our time that we were at the hotel up there. We found the owners to be very helpful and friendly and whenever we saw them in town, they would greet us and ask how things were going.

This hotel was great value and well worth it! I would go back there again and again!

I was led up to my room just after 'check in' time and it had not even been cleaned. The bed was almost on the floor and all crumpled with dirty sheets and the bathroom was dirty with wet towels still on the floor.
Unfortunately the outside was being renovated and the room was full of dust. The owner just said "keep the window shut".
I quickly left and found much larger (also had a loungeroom with a fridge), cleaner and quiet accommodation from a shop in the main street for $15 euros less a night. Ok, it didn't have a view, but then there wasn't a view from the other room, except for the scaffolding.
Friends I know stayed and said the owner barged into the room in the morning while she was still in bed and demanded passports and full payment.

Room Tip: Get there early and ask at the shops in the street with 'room vacant' signs.

If you don't like a (lots of steps) bit of exercise, stop reading. We stayed here for 4 nights (30/4 -4/5) and loved every minute of the stay. We booked on line direct and got a message , "OK, booked, give us a ring when you get here, we'll help with your luggage". And they did. We had booked a room with a sea view but on arrival we were offered a two roomed apartment, with a fridge and a kettle!!!! You don't sleep in a view so we jumped at it and less steps!!. On the path from Vernazza to Corniglia, our washing was the most photographed in the world. The place can sleep about 5 and had everything we needed. If you are looking for 5 star you won't find it but you will find 5 star immersion in Cinque Terra. Even to the little old lady across the path who spoke to us every day (in Italian) ? who thought we had given her the crown jewels when we gave her a Kangaroo pin. Even had nosey American tourists opent the door and look in, the "oh'd" and backed out. Restaurants overlooking the brilliant sea, the little supermarket, the walks. Enough, brilliant in the quaintest town and value for money.

This is what Elisabetta said as we began the climb up the 112 steps to our room. We booked using booking.com and re-confirmed with Elisabetta two or three times prior to going. She always emailed back quickly and met us in front of the Farmacia to take us to the room. When we looked up at the steps (which we knew about already, thanks to Trip Advisor postings), and then looked at our baggage, Elisabetta called her delightful husband, Guiseppe, to come and help us. The room was small, but had a killer view of the water and wonderful terrace. The bathroom was small, as expected, but perfectly adequate. More water pressure would have been nice, but it was fine. A hair dryer and fan were provided, and there was a fridge, plates, cups, and tableware. We didn't know whether to expect daily servicing of the room or not, since we had never stayed in a "room" that wasn't a hotel or B and B. We still don't, as the bed was made up one day and not the others. But that wasn't a big deal. We're pretty low maintenance. We were offered use of the washing machine, but ended up not using it because it was rainy on our last day, and we knew the clothes wouldn't get dry. The bed was okay, the pillows hard, but having been warned I had packed my own, which I used all across Italy. Take your own soap and wash cloths. The only thing that would keep us from staying with Elisabetta again is the loooonnnggg flight of steps. It got easier as the days went by, but boy was it a long way up.

Room Tip: ask for the sea view if it's important to you.

Other reviewers have stated it, but the view from both your window and from the roof top terrace were amazing. We booked a double bed with shared bath on hostel world but when we got there we found a king sized bed with private bath. The bed was a little short for my 6'2" husband but it wasn't that big a deal. There was plenty of storage for our clothes, a hot water pitcher, instant cofee, cups and spoons. There was a ton of towels and a hairdryer. The roof top terrace had a lot of tables and chairs and a ton of lines for hanging wet towels and clothes. No breakfast but that was fine since the siscilian pastry shop is right up the way. I did count the steps to our room-112 but they go quickly and are really not that bad. If you are in the cinque Terre your are probably there for hiking so its what you should expect, plus the higher you hike up the better the view! And the room is right on the path to corniglia so you can just walk right out your door and get going. There are only a few improvements I would suggest to make this place top notch, but they are hardly cons. The shower curtain was extremely small so no matter which way you pulled it you ended up getting water all over the floor. The walls are thin so you can hear other people talking, but it wasn't too bad. And my only other suggestion would be to have small fridge or something to keep beers or wine cold in and a cover over part of the terrace so you can experience the view even with the scorching hot sun or rain. I would love to return to this place again some day....I really think it has the best view in town....360 degrees!
