“Magical Vernazza”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 9, 2013

I spent four nights in Vernazza. I stayed in a room overlooking the bay and even though it was a "10 story walk up" I could hear the waves rambling to the shore. The town is busier during the day but after 5pm and until 10am you have the place to yourself and the locals. My most memorable night was the night before a storm was predicted and myself along all the town folk watched the men bring all the fishing boats from the bay into the central plaza. Their precision and elegance in bringing the boats ashore rivaled that of any "corp du balet" it was delightful. I hiked Vernazza to Monteroso, it was not the shortest trail but well worth the views. Food was great espeially the trofie with basil, breakfast was what the locals were having delicious custard filled rolls and coffee , lunches were away from town. I also visited Portovenere(by ferry) and Portofino(by train) and the other villages except fot Corniglia. I am glad I chose Vernazza my home base and would recommend it without any reserve, it was truly enchanting.

“Beautiful town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

It was a really cute town. It had access to the ferry and the hikes were open on both sides to Monterosso and Corniglia. The food was great and our bed and breakfast was nice.

“Love this town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2013

This is one of best of the 5 Cinque Terre towns to visit. It is a must see. The trails between the towns are still closed from the damage in 2011 but the towns have been repaired and are beautiful.

“Charming Retreat on the Mediterranean”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 4, 2013

Cinque Terre is gorgeous. Each little town has its own charm. Vernazza was a little touristy, but I liked seeing people walking about the town. It's neither too big nor too small. I would make this my base town (or Monterosso al Mar) and then spend time visiting each town briefly. The food in this town was quite delicious.

“Small and charming”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2013

Very pictoresque, this would be a nice place to stay for a week, sit in the sun, watch the sea, read a book, hike to the other villages etc.

On the other hand, it may get crowded during the summer time. There a huge amount of people visiting the different villages in 5terre. You can see it by the lenght of these regional trains and crowded train stations.

The hikes 8b-9 from Vernazza to Monterosso is really beautiful. It is all uphill and downhill but well worth it.
