Looking up to the hills above Vernazza, I spotted La Torre - and its gently flapping white umbrellas said "Come up here for the most beautiful view of the town and sea, have a drink and some fabulous food, its really not very far!". The umbrellas were right. We arrived about 8:00, and left about 11:30, in between having our most memorable and enjoyable dining experience in Italy: sardines cooked in lemon sauce, sea-food salad, pesto lasagna, mussels and octopus that was AMAZINGLINGLY tender, unlike any other 'calamari' I have had anywhere else, choclate cake, a couple of bottles of wine, coffee and then the "coffee killer" - an incrediblely fasty, homemade lemoncello chilled to perfection by spinning ice-cubes. Oh yes, the view is just beautiful too!! Do yourself a favor and go to La Torre. The staff was so welcoming we felt like native Vernazzians (a word??)
