We stayed in a room with private bathroom on the ground floor of the house which was great as so many other rooms in Vernazza have many stairs. The room was small, clean and comfortable. The location close to the train station but quiet and just a short walk to the restaurants and the waterfront. Vernazza was a good base for staying in the Cinque Terre area and Annamaria & her mother were lovely. We can recommend you stay here.

My husband and I stayed at Camere Fontanavecchia for two nights and
had a wonderful time. Our room was so clean and had a nice sound of the
stream outside the window. When we arrived, Annamaria was not present
so we checked in with her mother who was delightful. We communicated
using a lot of sign language since her mother speaks no English.
We loved the Il Pirata restaurant up the street for breakfast and dinner. The two brothers who own the cafe are very funny, friendly and speak great English! We would definitely stay here on a future trip, and highly
recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Four rooms to choose from; we had room 2

Unlike most guests, we arrived by taxi because the trains were on strike. What a treat to find that we had literally a few steps to walk to Camere Fontanavecchia from the car park. We were met by Annamaria's mother who does not speak English but expected and graciously welcomed us. Her comings and goings and friendly greetings were one of the pleasant aspects of our stay.

Our room was large by European standards, spare, and very clean. The bed was great. The house is next to a babbling brook which is delightful in the night. As others have noted, there is no nighttime town noise here but the entire town is just minutes away on foot. There's a little porch on the front of the house where you can sit and watch the world go by. At this end of town it's particularly interesting; lacking a sea view and exciting plaza life you see more of the typical residents going about their lives. While we were very happy with the location, those who must see the plaza and the sea should choose different lodgings.

For those who have difficulty with steps, this is also one of the few lodgings in Vernazza that is on the first floor, so there's no lugging bags up and downstairs.

Annamaria of course knows everyone in town. She is kind and very helpful. We went to do our laundry on Sunday morning only to find the laundromat closed, despite postings stating it was open every day. Annamaria said "She probably just forgot to open. She's my friend; I'll call her." And she did. She had correctly assessed the situation and 10 minutes later we were back there happily washing clothes.

Vernazza is a charming town and I think a very good choice for a base in the Cinque Terre. Off-season appears to be an excellent time to go: on a 3-week trip in April to several locations in Italy and France, nowhere did we encounter more tourists than there. I can't imagine what it must be like in the high season.

Room was very clean and a good size with a couple of chairs and small table. We stayed in the room with the private, detached bathroom and it worked out very well. The bathroom is just a few steps down the hall. Annamaria was very helpful and her husband came to the train station to escort us to the room. Excellent bakery/cafe more or less just across the street for breakfast. Easy walk to anywhere in town.

Just a couple minutes walk from the main square, so you avoid the weekend night noise. No flights of stairs, first floor rooms that are charming and large and bright. Our only issue was that we asked to leave our bags and she suggested the lockers in Monterosso's train station, which no longer exist. Not her fault, but after dragging our bags around for a while we finally left them with friends we'd made staying in another of her rooms. April is definitely the time to visit Vernazza, and Annamaria was very kind. The ducks outside in the stream below the bridge made for a pleasant and fun alarm :)

Room Tip: figure out what to do with your bags ahead of time

I'm glad I read about AnnaMaria's place on Trip Advisor. Her little hotel was just up the street from the train station, and her daughter came down to meet us at the train station and even pulled my suitcase up to the hotel. We had a first floor room and bath and they were spotless and comfortable. A short walk took us down to the restaurants and shops. I heartily recommend AnnaMaria's place -- she's a very gracious hostess.

Room Tip: Book early as Vernazza is a very popular place.

I highly recommend Camere Fontanavecchia to anyone staying in Vernazza. It's a very clean basic hotel tucked away from the crowds in this tiny village...and Anna Maria was a great hostess.

Anna Maria met us at the train station and led us on the two-minute walk to the hotel. She was very accomidating and helpful throughout our stay.

When I booked the room I was a little sorry to not be staying in a place with a sea view on the harbor, but once we were there I realized that having the peace and quiet at night far out-weighed a view. And we had a small little balcony that over-looked this part of the town, which was nice. There was a stream right under our window and balcony which was nice...if I have a criticism, it is to the ducks in the stream who sometimes decided to have a conversation in the middle of the night.

And it is important to remember when reading this or other reviews, that when we say it is located "at the top of the village" or "on the other side of town" that Vernazza is extremely tiny. It took me only seven minutes to walk comfortably from the hotel to the harbor and all of the restaurants. Adn as many others have pointed out - there are no stairs, which can be a big plus.
