The Marco Polo suite here has to have one of the most spectacular village and sea views you'll ever find. Spacious apartment but we can't remember much about it because the balcony views just dominated our memories of this place. Spectacular, worth any price to stay here!! The hosts are also very attentive but leave you to yourself once the initial greetings are finalised. They'll look after your car so no hassles with parking. The village is just the right size and without the multitude of tourists that you find in Monterosso. Great place.

We were two couples staying in two rooms, one with a kitchen. The rooms were comfortable, clean and well furnished. The best part was the terrace with incredible views where we enjoyed our breakfast in the morning and cocktails in the evening. Be prepared for many many steps to town and back. The owner picked us up by car from the train station and brought us back to the train station at departure. There is a nice restaurant a few steps away which is very welcome when the steps to town seem too much. I would not recommend this for someone who cannot do the steps, but if you can, it is well worth the climb. We loved staying in Rio Maggiore rather than one of the more crowded cities like Monterossa.

Emiliano picked us up at the train station & drove us up the hill to the apartment providing useful info throughtout check-in. I would recommend this room (building is apartment style) to those who need a clean place to sleep/prepare for the day. We had a room with balcony that had an amazing view. The bed was two twins pushed together but there was ample bedding& it was comfortable. Shower had hot water no matter the time of day, everthing in the room was in good working order. Do remember to bring all toiletries as no soap, shampoo are provided. They alsi do not provide washclothes but we are now in Como & none are provided here so i believe this is standard practice in italy. They did provide a wine opener & glasses. I would bring earplugs for sleeping through late pm(midnight) to early am town noise including church bells which are otherwise quite pleasant.

We actually had a rough start here. The lady who owned the place, Emiliano, originally told us that there would be someone to meet us at the train station, but just before we arrived we received an email letting us know that we could just walk to La Baia di Rio. We don't mind walking, but unfortunately we went the wrong way and spent an hour trying to find this place (walking around with our luggage). When we finally arrived there was a maid there who answered the door who was very flustered to see us arrive. She called the owner of the room and handed me the phone. Emiliano told me that there had been a late check out so the room wasn't actually ready so we needed to leave and come back later. They let us leave our luggage in the room, but we were quickly ushered out.

However, that was the worst of it. We had the Abel Tasman room and it was great! The view was unbelievable! Sitting on that balcony was one of our favorite things. We later met Emiliano's mother and son and they were both very friendly and helpful. So a bit of a rough start, but still great overall!

Room Tip: The Abel Tasman room as an unbelievable view of the sea and town! Highly recommend it!

This place didn't rub me with right way.

The view from the room was gorgeous and everything was clean, but it was far from perfect.

Some examples:
-The bed was TERRIBLE. Like many places in Italy it was two twin beds pushed together. Here, however, it was actually two completely separate beds with separate frames pushed next to each other, which meant that there was a 6" gap between the mattresses. Hardly comfortable for a couple.
-Only one big bottle of handsoap in the shower -- no shampoo, conditioner etc. When we asked for some we were told that they don't give it.
-There was a plastic chair that we wanted to take out to the room's balcony, but because the door was locked so that we couldn't open it all the way, it was impossible for both of us to sit outside. Instead there was a folding metal chair out there.

The Cinque Terre don't require more than one day of sightseeing, and you can likely find a much better place somewhere else.
Also note that the trail from Riomaggiore is closed until further notice.

We stayed in the Abel Tasman room for 3 nights and had a wonderful stay. We were greeted by Emiliano, the owner's son, who met us at the bottom of the hill and carried our luggage to our room. He gave invaluable information/advice on how to navigate the Cinque Terre. He gave recommendations on wonderful restaurants and even outlined a possible itinerary for our stay. The view from our room was spectacular and the room itself was clean and comfortable. Please note, the room is small but perfectly adequate. This is not a typical hotel – it is someone's home. Only 3 of the 5 rooms have balconies, so make sure you book the one you want. Riomaggiore was absolutely beautiful. We would definitely recommend and go back to this hotel.

We stayed here for 4 nights. Two in the Abel Tasman room with sea view balcony that was superb and 2 nights in the Marco Polo penthouse apartment (top deck). Try and book this one if you can and you have uninterupted views of Riomaggiore that are simply stunning. Every night we had beautiful fresh food and drinks on our balcony overlooking the ocean.

The owners are friendly and helpful. Maristella met is at the station and drove us to the hotel which was invaluable in this area as we watched numerous couples over the week struggle with cases up the steps, hopelessly lost and looking frustrated and exhausted. Our arrival was flawless with Maristella meeting us as we got off the train, helping us with our bags to her car waiting a mere 15 feet from the station and then driving us up the hill to her hotel overlooking the harbour. She provided us with invaluable information about the best restaurants and train and ferry timetables which again saved us time and frustration over the next few days. She also told us about the alternative and far superior trail to Manarola to the closed Via Dell Amore, which was the highlight of the trip and by far the best trail in Cinque Terra. We ended up hiking from Riomaggiore right up to Levanto and it was an experience we will never forget.

The location is superb as it is just about the highest hotel in the area and the balcony views are amazing.

We would highly recommend this hotel for its location, views and value.
