Trail 2 is still closed from Riomaggiore to Corniglia. We trekked from Monterosso to Vernazza and then onto Corniglia. What an amazing experience. We loved it and got some great shots along the way.

We hiked Corniglia to Vernazza, we were based outside of Cinque Terre and took a train in. While the hike to Corniglia to Vernazza had more downhill than uphill, starting in Corniglia meant a good set of stairways up to Corniglia from the station. But the views back were beautiful.

Once in Corniglia, walk down the road past the bus station--down hill a bit, in the direction of Vernazza. It is not far, but a little further than we expected, to the shack where you pay for the hike.

When you pass the shack at the Vernazza side, the end of the hike for those of us starting in Corniglia, for a cold drink and enjoy some amazing, amazing views. Just past the shack/person-collecting-fees you start going down-hill. A few yards later there is a little opening to the left and a sign that says "hungry? thirsty?". Go in and you will see tables set up on a couple of terraces with amazing views. The food is fine, the drinks are cold and great, and the view is 2x amazing. Make this stop part of your plan for this hike.

Views were wonderful along the path, it took about 1 hr 40 min to hike it (females in their 50's) the kids (age 11 - 16) did it in 1 hr 20min. Make sure you bring lots of water with you and wear comfortable shoes (no flip flops or sandles).

First off, after visiting the towns of Cinque Terre it is safe to say that everyone in my group agreed that Monterosso and Vernazza were our favorites (Monterosso does have more people due to the beach but the town is very good for walking/eating and there are some quieter swimming spots). Starting off in Monterosso the trail was very steep with lots of stairs. Also towards the beginning of the trail (on both sides) is a small booth where tickets were to be purchased (for around 5-7 euros/person) but the attendant was letting everyone go for free (maybe because he was ready to go home for the day). The views are beautiful and there are may photo opportunities! Bring lots of water as the trail takes around two hours and it can get very hot!
