“Nice”
Reviewed June 14, 2009

This was a comfortable place with a huge patio off each of the terraced rooms. Not the best view directly out front, but lots to see up in the hills and down towards the lower parts of town. Quiet and relaxing after a hard day of hiking.

I was worried that this would be up a huge hill, but it was a lot easier to reach than many of the accomodations I saw in Cinque Terre towns.

Enrico and Maria were friendly and welcoming. They work hard and run a nice place. Very accommodating to our late booking and whims.

Internet is available, but I was only able to use it in the reception area.

Breakfast was nice with excellent pastries.

You can't go wrong with choosing Locanda del Sole in Riomaggiore. If you are driving, Enrico will open his front gate and you can park onsite. The location is at the top of the hill of the main street leading down to the sea. Enrico and his wife are very friendly (he speaks perfect English), the price is right, and all the rooms have a terrace overlooking the street. If you plan on walking up to the other towns, get out early, as there were a lot of people heading up the path when we were already coming back. Ciao Enrico!

We booked this hotel based off the recommendation here on Trip Advisor, and we were not dissapointed. Enrico, the owner was very friendly and very helpful, the room was very clean and quite large by Italian standards. The location of the hotel was very convienient for the trail and the train station. Riomaggiore worked out perfectly as a great place to explore Cinque Terre. This place is by no mean a luxury hotel, but it is very comfortable and has a great breakfast included in the very reasonable price. I will definately stay here again!

The hotel and service was fantastic! Enrico is so friendly and accommodating. He helped us out when there was a train strike in Italy. He really went out of his way to make our trip great. The hotel rooms were very nice and ours had a terrace with a good view. The continental breakfast was the best one we had in Italy. I gave 5 stars for everything except location (4 stars). The view is fantastic but pack light if you have trouble carrying your luggage since it is at the top of a hill

Locanda del Sole in Riomaggiore is a great place to stay for those who are looking for accommodations at an affordable price. The room and bath room were clean and large. Enrico was very friendly and every morning provided a substantial breakfast to get our day of hiking started with....cafe', fresh fruit, yogurt, pastries. I would recommend Locanda Del Sole for those that are more interested in getting out into the hiking trails than staying in. Isn't that the whole reason to check out the beauty of Cinque Terre.

The Locanda del Sole is an excellent place to stay when visiting the Cinque Terre. The property is located in Riomaggiore which is the southernmost town. There are several very good restaurants and it is a short walk to the train station. Enrico, who runs the property, it polite, friendly and extremely helpful. The property provides parking, and parking is in very short supply in the area. The breakfasts are simple, fresh and more than adequate to get your day started. The rooms were clean and modern. I would definitely stay here again,

I doubt you could go wrong staying in any of the 5 towns in the Cinque Terre, but parking is minimal, and since we had a rental car, we chose to stay in the town of Riomaggiore at the Locanda del Sole, because it had a parking lot. For us, that turned out to be a good decision. Riomaggiore is less touristy than most of the others, and the Locanda del Sole is a nice place. It is at the top of the town, but we still had to climb lots of steps to get to our room, because we wanted one with a view. After our initial “thanks, but we’re fine” response, Enrico graciously offered again to help us carry our luggage to our room. We declined again. If you don’t want to climb hills, don’t go to Cinque Terre! Our room was average size, clean and neat. Had we been there at a warm time of year, the terrace would have been a great place to spend some time. Breakfast was breads, pastries, etc., and Enrico made any type of coffee we requested. He was a great host answering any questions we had. We would definitely stay here again.

Cinque Terre is unique and very beautiful. If plush is what you are looking for, you might find some in Monterossa al Mare, but plush is not what the Cinque Terre is about. It is a place to see a little of how the hardworking locals live, to enjoy the beauty of nature, and to eat as much as you want, because you will definitely walk it off. We hope to make it back some day.
