The hotel and service was fantastic! Enrico is so friendly and accommodating. He helped us out when there was a train strike in Italy. He really went out of his way to make our trip great. The hotel rooms were very nice and ours had a terrace with a good view. The continental breakfast was the best one we had in Italy. I gave 5 stars for everything except location (4 stars). The view is fantastic but pack light if you have trouble carrying your luggage since it is at the top of a hill

Locanda del Sole in Riomaggiore is a great place to stay for those who are looking for accommodations at an affordable price. The room and bath room were clean and large. Enrico was very friendly and every morning provided a substantial breakfast to get our day of hiking started with....cafe', fresh fruit, yogurt, pastries. I would recommend Locanda Del Sole for those that are more interested in getting out into the hiking trails than staying in. Isn't that the whole reason to check out the beauty of Cinque Terre.

The Locanda del Sole is an excellent place to stay when visiting the Cinque Terre. The property is located in Riomaggiore which is the southernmost town. There are several very good restaurants and it is a short walk to the train station. Enrico, who runs the property, it polite, friendly and extremely helpful. The property provides parking, and parking is in very short supply in the area. The breakfasts are simple, fresh and more than adequate to get your day started. The rooms were clean and modern. I would definitely stay here again,

I doubt you could go wrong staying in any of the 5 towns in the Cinque Terre, but parking is minimal, and since we had a rental car, we chose to stay in the town of Riomaggiore at the Locanda del Sole, because it had a parking lot. For us, that turned out to be a good decision. Riomaggiore is less touristy than most of the others, and the Locanda del Sole is a nice place. It is at the top of the town, but we still had to climb lots of steps to get to our room, because we wanted one with a view. After our initial “thanks, but we’re fine” response, Enrico graciously offered again to help us carry our luggage to our room. We declined again. If you don’t want to climb hills, don’t go to Cinque Terre! Our room was average size, clean and neat. Had we been there at a warm time of year, the terrace would have been a great place to spend some time. Breakfast was breads, pastries, etc., and Enrico made any type of coffee we requested. He was a great host answering any questions we had. We would definitely stay here again.

Cinque Terre is unique and very beautiful. If plush is what you are looking for, you might find some in Monterossa al Mare, but plush is not what the Cinque Terre is about. It is a place to see a little of how the hardworking locals live, to enjoy the beauty of nature, and to eat as much as you want, because you will definitely walk it off. We hope to make it back some day.

I will echo the sentiments of most of the reviewers regarding the place itself and the host Enrico. Being a local, he is very knowledgeable of the area and is glad to share this with you. We went to one of his friend's restaurants and who was sitting at the next table - Enrico! It was lovely to get a taste, literally, of local life in Riomaggiore. That alone is one of the reasons to book at this "locanda" (i.e. "inn" - hotels have 7 rooms or more and del Sole is working on getting their hotel status).

We stayed in room #1. The terrace was the reason that we booked as I wanted to come home after a long day of trekking to a bottle of wine and some takeaway pizza from the local parlor down the hill to watch the sun set. The sea view is minimal and you have to stand by the terrace's railing to actually see it, however it was pleasant and far enough away from the tourist rigamarole.

There is an elevator you can take (free with your Cinque Terre card) from before the tunnel which will get you to one of the higher roads if you are concerned about the main road's incline. However, if you aren't in Cinque Terre to hike up the beautiful hills, you probably shouldn't stay in any of the 5 towns at all because that's what it's all about.

Riomaggiore is a great base and the Locanda del Sole is all you need. And the beer in the mini bar is cheaper than any of the local restaurants - so stay in!

This place is awesome. I booked it for a vacation in August due to reviews from this website and it was the cheapest place I could find in Cinque Terre at the time @ 120 euros/night. It is peaceful and serene, located at the very top of the hill in Riomaggiore.

That is the one of two downsides to this location. The hill is not very large by CA standards, but it is steep! Of course we were there in August when it was humid, so it made walking up the hill with luggage pure torture, and I run approximately 12 miles a week. There is a shuttle bus that will pick you up at the bottom of the hill, for I think 1.5 euros, and it is worth it if you have bags. Otherwise, you should be good.

The other downside is the showers are TINY. I am 5'2" and it was tight for me. My boyfriend that is 6'3" could barely fit!

In order to book, go to the website and e-mail Enrico, the hotel owner. His English is excellent and he's a great person. Each room comes with a semi-private terrace and breakfast is available in the lobby every morning. Enrico is a fabulous host and will give you great advice on what to do when you are there, if you need it.

The rooms are clean and modern, and again the terrace is awesome. We used our terrace every night, drinking local wine and smoking cigars, while we were there. Not to mention, this terrace is where my fiancee proposed. The perfect place! I can't wait to go back!

this was very plain, functional accomodation, with nothing of the charm that other reviewers referred to. The place is a modern building located next to the main car park of Riomaggiore, at the very top edge of the village, and surrounded by other very large modern buildings with limited views of Riomaggiore itself. The owner is a kind and helpful guy, but if you are looking for a romantic getaway or a place with Cinque Terre character, this is not the place for you.
We had a terrace to sit in from which we "enjoyed" a long argument of an italian family at high volume in a nearby house. The place was clean and non descriptive. I have no other places to suggest in Riomaggiore. I would not go back to la Locanda del Sole.
