“Loved Riomaggiore”
Reviewed December 2, 2007

Fabulous place to stay, recently redecorated , a very comfortable place to stay. Our room was more spacious than many we stayed in in Italy. Lots of stairs and steep roads to climb up, along with everywhere else in Riomaggiore, this is what Riomaggiore is. We would have loved to have been able to stay longer, perhaps on the next overseas trip!

  • Liked — Modern, clean and spacious
  • Disliked — stairs along with every other building in Riomaggiore

We stayed at the Casa di Venere in early June and once we were settled quite enjoyed it. It is well situated, close to the tunnel to the rail station and the path that leads to the next town of Manorola
Pluses- We stayed in room #5-- a large double with an extra single bed and private bath--obviously newly refurbished -not luxurious but comfortable.Included was a small bar fridge.Sylvia the manager was vey pleasant.
There are discrepencies with their bio though. Their internet picture is actually a building on the waterfront. There is not a lady to meet you at rail station as described. It actually took an hour to find a payphone and finally catch up with Sylvia. I did send 2 Emails to confirm our time of arrival but never received an acknowledgement so I wasn't sure what to expect. We were also helped by the bartender at the Bar Centrale up the street to find Sylvia.Credit cards are not accepted as noted. It's cash only, but there is an ATM across the street. The shower in the bathroom s very small which is surprising because the bathroom is quite large and spotless.
Our biggest surprise was the numerous stairs we had to climb to get to our room. Once we got the luggage in place it was fine. These are all small details that didn't take away from the experience that is Cinque Terre. As first time visitors we found out that stairs and climbing hills are a fact of life in the Cinque Terre towns as well as in the rail stations to get from one track to the other.
The food is great in all the towns. The people are friendly and whether you travel by boat, by rail or on foot the area is awesome.Spectacular views and lush countryside.
We would stay in Riomaggiore and the Casa Di Venere on a return trip. We liked the location first and foremost.
