“great value for the price”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

I followed trip advisor's advice and booked cinquiterre residence for our trip. I am here right now and so pleased with my choice! The room is clean, simple. I have a little kitchen and private terrace. We are having our breakfast and late dinners with great food bought in little italian stores. There are many little shops in Riomaggiore and many take out stores.
We are enjoying the many trails between villages, some very hard, and are happy to come back to our little apartment. The price is right! Service is perfect!

I love this hotel! A clean and delicate room with double doors leading out to a patio with a beautiful view. I loved the sight of the lemontree when I opened the doors in the morning. Quiet, clean, charming and a friendly host family. They were most helpful with advises for trails, restaurants etc. We will defenitely go back! If you have luggage, take the bus from the train station. It's not far, but quite steep.

We prefer to stay in familly-run hotels and this exactly matched our expectations. We could absorb the local spirit, the service and rooms were excelent. We highly appreciated David's advice on which trail to take and which restaurant to visit. We stayed only for 3 nights, but thanks to David and his recommendation we took as much as possible from our trip to Cinqueterre.

You can't beat the location of this place set at the top of Riomagiorre. It is easliy reached by car and has it's own car park - which is very important if you are driving here. If you're getting here by train (which is very easy to do), you have a very steep walk ahead of you so take the town bus. You will need to be able to climb a lot of steep steps to go between the hotel and the town so be prepared. Steep inclines are the norm for all the towns in the Cinqueterre. The owners of the Hotel are wonderful. Carla, Pietri and David all are very welcoming and helpful. The coffees in the afternoon after a big day were very appreciated as was Pietris smiling face. Nothing was too much trouble for them. David has lots of inside knowledge on the trails between the towns. The room was lovely and had two balconies. (One morning we had breakfast on our balcony overlooking the town and ocean beyond.) It was well apportioned, with an excellent bathroom and quiet as a church. Wifi works well and we had no problem Skyping Australia. We would stay here again.

Carla and her colleagues provided very friendly service and advice about Riomaggiore and the Cinque Terre region. This is an airy, newer place perched atop the town, which sturdier visitors can reach via walking (plenty of cardio!), or with a brief call-ahead car ride to/from the train station. Our room had a nice terrace area shaded by a lemon tree that also provided neighborly privacy. Carla was nice enough to share a bit of the local vino bianco when we first arrived (which we liked a great deal, and re-affirmed this opinion on various occasions/places over the next few days!). It's a short walk from their upper gate to the entrance to the park, and the old stone path up to the ridgetop sanctuary. Likewise, it's a brief walk around the rim road to their recommended nearby restaurant, Ripa Del Sole, which was great and because not down in the main town might not get the consideration it should. Overall we were very happy with our experience here, and on balance felt like Riomaggiore itself was a very good "town" choice for our CT stay. We look forward to coming back!

We tried to make reservations the day before but the WiFi connection didn't work. We were so glad that they still had a room available for us. We looked at a room the tourist center recommended but it was small and dirty.
Carloa and Piero made us feel so welcome from the minute we arrived. Our room wasn't quite ready so they took us to the breakfast room and gave us a beverage while we waited. We also appreciated the luggage lift which got our luggage part of the way down and up, not to mention the convenient parking. Our room was a nice size with a small terrace. I thought it was perfect; and we appreciated the mini-bar.

We were only able to eat breakfast one day; it was a typical Italian hotel breakfast and we were happy with it. Other guests in the hotel that we encountered were nice company.

We want to go back to Cinque Terra and will definitely stay here if we do. Highly recommend it.

Room Tip: I liked our room with a terrace overlooking the town. I think it was the lowest level which made wa...

My wife and I just returned from 4 days staying at the Cinqueterre Residence. It was a great 4 days. This is a tough review because we did have a wonderful time and our host, Davide, did a great job, and I would encourage everyone to stay at the Cinqueterre Residence, but I have just a couple caveats... The hotel is relatively new (2003), immaculately kept, and comfortable. The room we had was relatively small but not tiny. The furnishings were simple but adequate. We did have a bouquet of fresh cut flowers waiting for us that were spectacular. The room had its own terrace with a view of the town (not the Med) that would have been much more enjoyable if the weather had been a bit warmer. The included breakfast was simple but very adequate as well with fresh cut flowers on each table. Good coffee but no hot food. Anyone staying at the hotel should be warned of a relatively challenging climb to the hotel from the train station. We are in much better shape now than before our visit. Lastly, I think the photos of the hotel are just a bit of an oversell making everything look a little bigger...but I think during the hot sunny summer with everything opened up, the hotel design might be ideal. Bottomline, the Cinqueterre Residence is a great value.
PS. Listen to Davide regarding the hiking trails. His advice was spot on. He even drove us to the top of one of the trails to allow us to walk down rather than climb up. Thank you Davide.

Room Tip: There may be a room higher in the hotel with a view of the Med.
