We loved our three night stay at Cinqueterre Residence in early Sept 2012 and only wish we could have stayed longer! As everyone mentions, the family of Cinqueterre Residence are wonderful, kind, helpful and truly work to make everyone feel welcome and cared for. The welcome from Davide when we arrived including maps, information about the area and recommendations was very helpful.

The rooms are spacious, clean and very comfortable. The bathrooms are also spacious and with updated amenities. I was surprised by how calm and quiet the property is – very relaxing! Yes, there is a hill and several steps to get to and from the center of town – but I promise you, it’s well worth it! The location was just perfect for us.

I looked forward to breakfast each morning – pastries, berries, and homegrown tomatoes (the best!) for me. There was also cereal, yogurt, meats and cheeses available – a great selection for breakfast. And of course the “famous” Cinqueterre Residence cappuccino complete with a smiley face on the top. ☺

We miss it already. We will return again and when we do, we will certainly stay at Cinqueterre Residence!

Thank you Davide and family for a wonderful stay.
We hope to visit again soon!

We stayed here 3 nights and could have stated longer. Directions they gave the travel agent were great. No way would I have wanted to carry my luggage up that hill. The green bus was handy for this and as we later found out a great saviour in other towns of the Cinque Terre.
We had a corner room with no directly attached rooms, common balcony though, which made for meeting other guests. As did the green bus. Where we met a great Canadian couple whom we share much vino, food and story swapping with.
The room was very clean, the bed comfortable, breakfast more than adequate with fresh coffee.
David's advice and knowledge was wonderful and aided us in finding great little away from the tourists spots.
A great comfortable and friendly stay. Thank you!

My stay at Cinqueterre Residence was well worth the trip up the hill each day. Instructions for catching the green bus on the first day were easy to follow and saved me a walk up the very steep hill with a suitcase in tow. Once there, I was helped with my bags and given maps of the area and recommendations for the best hikes. The room was clean and comfortable with a good sized bathroom and free Wifi. The owners made sure there were gluten free breakfast options and were very attentive in making sure everything was ok. They also offered good restaurant recommendations. The only con was that the walls were a little thin and I could hear the tv in the next room. Overall a lovely place to stay.

Cinqueterre Residence in Riomaggiore is amazing on so many levels. First and foremost, Carla, her husband and son are truly the nicest people you will ever meet in your life! Upon your arrival, you are greeted like a VIP. They give you a welcome drink and then provide you with everything you will need to know about Cinque Terre from how to get to each of the 5 villages to schedules for all means of transportation! The rooms are spotless. They are comfortable (A/C) and the shower is fabulous! If you are a picky traveler, this is the place for you. We visited all of the villages and like Riomaggiore the most with the Cinqueterre Residence as the best place to stay! We highly recommend this hotel, you will not be disappointed!

We spent 3 nights in Riomaggiore and wished it could have been longer.

On arrival after a long day of travelling, Davide met us at the top gate (we arrived by taxi) and took our luggage for us. We were ushered into the breakfast room where they insisted we have a drink and cool off for a few minutes before we checked in. This was lovely and it gave us a few minutes to sit down and relax. Davide gave us several maps of the area along with timetables for the buses, trains & ferries and explained a bit about the area and towns.

He showed us to our room which was lovely - typical Italian style, very spacious and comfortable with a huge bathroom. We had a terrace with views across the town which we really enjoyed. The shades in our room kept the room dark enough that we could lay in a bit in the mornings but we also had enough privacy (being the end room) that we could leave the doors open in the evening for fresh air.

The breakfast provided daily was a simple continental but more than enough food for us. We did not expect much more given that the Residence only has a handful of rooms - we would hardly expect them to prepare a hot buffet for so few people. The pastries were lovely, lots of fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereal and juice. The coffee was also fantastic!

The wifi worked perfectly for us both in the room and on the terrace. One thing I was also very pleasantly surprised about was the cost of the minibar. It was almost the same cost as purchasing drinks in the village. This was a nice change and we really appreciated that they are not trying to rip you off like so many major hotel chains do.

The town of Riomaggiore itself is beautiful. Please note though that the location of the hotel is not for the faint hearted!! There is a good workout involved in getting from the village up to the hotel if you are like us and prefer to take the stairs rather than the bus! It is worth it though and we felt better about devouring so much amazing food given the exercise we were doing! If you prefer a town that is flatter then Monterosso is the best option, however far bigger and more touristy. We loved that Riomaggiore had such a quaint feel to it. Do however ensure to catch the bus from the train station (little green bus leaves from the atm) as the hike would not be a pleasant one with luggage.

All in all, I would return to Cinqueterre Residence in a heart beat. We felt so warmly welcomed and nothing was ever too hard for Davide or Piero (we didn't get to meet Carla, but all my communication in booking was through her and she has been lovely). This is not at all your typical Hilton, Westin etc, but something much much better than that. The service is so personal and it truly felt like a home away from home.

On a side note for the Cinque Terre itself - we walked to Manarola - very easy 10 to 15 minute walk, all flat and magnificent views. We caught the train between the rest of the towns and from Corniglia station it is quite a hike up the stairs to the town (382 stairs I believe from the sign). It is well worth it to head up (was not anywhere near as hard as I anticipated looking up at it!) just make sure to fill your water bottle at the train station. All the towns are beautiful and we loved every one.
