“Amazing view & sound of Ocean from this Apartment !”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2012

I choose to stay in this Apartment for the wonderful view of the ocean it afforded and it did not disappoint me . I watched the sun go down from it s windows each evening and was lulled to sleep each night by the sound of the ocean. I loved the rugged scenery , the topsy - turvy houses and the sea - faring history of Riomagiorre, the fact that the town has changed little over the last couple of hundred years, that residents go about their daily lives almost oblivious to us tourists.
However I was disappointed that I had to request a change of towels half-way through a six - night stay and found the beds quite uncomfortable.
The excellent Dau - Cila Restaurant , a stone s throw from my Apartment , really enhanced my stay. The quality of the seafood and it s preparation were excellent, the staff and management so helpful and appreciative. The House- Wine went down well too! Overall a most enjoyable stay !

Room Tip: Ask for a first floor room with sea-view as the stone stairs are extremely steep - the view is still...

We used Edi to help us, she's a nice lady who allowed us to pay cash on arrival.
Just email her n tell her ur requirements n she will suggest. We stayed at a seaview apartment near Cila restaurant.. We had dinner by e sea n then simply walked back safely aft that!
It was minimal n basic at 100euros / night!
Fall asleep to e sound of waves crashing on e shores n rocks .... I reali liked it!!!

We stayed for one night in the "Zia Maria" room. I would give this room four out of five, but it was 100 euros for one night- which was was the most we spent on a room in Italy (we had to reserve here because the less expensive places were already taken). The room is well-decorated and up-to-date and has a very nice view of Riomaggiore harbor and everything is fairly well-maintained (although the shower didn't drain that well - it was too late to call the office when we discovered this) and even includes a mini-fridge.

The best part of the room is that the sea sounds make for a very restful night's sleep. There is a restaurant a block away but the sea overwhelms any sound that might come from the patio.

Because the office is a few blocks from the actual room it would help if they provided a card with some basic info about the room and the surroundings. Also, it's a small operation (they also run the town's laundromat next to the office) so while they were in the office in the early afternoon when we came to check in, they were not there when we came by a few hours later to ask some questions. I can see how this would have upset the reviewer who said they were not able to check in because they were out of the office. Maybe posting a sign with a phone number on the office or a sign that directs people to a neighboring business who can raise the proprietors could help address this. Despite this, they were quite helpful in letting us keep our bags in the office after checking out and using their bathroom to change before hopping on the train.

We spent 4 nights in this spacious and clean 2 story apartment on the harbor (Apartment Zia Maria). The apartment has a bedroom and bath on the bottom floor and full kitchen, couch, dining table, and porch on the upper floor. The bedroom windows overlooked the edge of the harbor and the sounds of the waves crashing on the shore and the harbor rocks was the most pleasing sounds you can imagine. The upstairs porch (with table, 4 plastic chairs, and 1 lounge chair) afforded a great view of the harbor, part of the charming city, the hills, and the open sea. The porch gets the morning sun with direct exposure between about 9:00 and 16:00. (Note, there is no Wi Fi in the apartment but you can access the internet at the train station for 5 euro for 24 hours and at a couple of bars on via Colombo.).

The kitchen and dining area allowed us to eat in the room and we took advantage by picking up food at several spots. We had some delicious take-out freshly cooked pasta and focaccia at Te la do io la merenda, a small shop on the right as you climb the hill on the main street (via Colombo) in town. We also found the local market shop, Alimentari Franca, as a great place for supplies and for dinner items like octopus, sun-died tomato, olives, anchovies, cheese, and focaccia – it’s the first shop on the right as you head up via Colombo. We also found the foccacio to be excellent at Panificio Rosi (on the left as you climb the main street).

Checking in was efficient and the lady on duty spoke enough English for things to go smoothly. She walked us to the apartment and showed us around the place. We did figure out after the fact that when checking in, it is wise to leave one person with the baggage at the bottom of the street (via Colombo) where you exit the tunnel from the train, and have one person walk up the street to the office to check-in (remember to take all of the passports with you). For our apartment, it certainly would have reduced the stress of dragging our bags up the hill. From the bottom of via Colombo, we had 56 steps down to the harbor and then 52 steps up to the apartment (and most of those are giant steps, like half again the normal height) so be prepared to haul your luggage.

We went to all 5 cities and definitely liked Riomaggiore the most, with a good selection of restaurants, pretty views, and friendly people. This apartment was a perfect base to relax with great views, convenience of eating in, and good value for a clean and comfortable place to sleep with the wonderful sounds of the crashing waves.

We recently stayed for 4 nights in Riomaggiore and the apartment edi had for us was breathtaking and that is just the stairs up to it. Wonderful balcony overlooking the cliff top view. Well equipped room very suitable for a short stay. Great location with fabulous restaurants and cafes just downstairs. Could not of asked for more at quite a reasonable price. Staff were very helpful and met all our needs. Would love to visit again and strongly recommend to friends.

We stay at Edi apartments for 2 nights in late March 2012. We drove our hire car into Riomaggiore, parked at the top of the town and walked down to check-in. We purchased a 10 Euro p/day private park to store the car (definitely not needed whilst staying in Riomaggiore) - can drive down the bottom of the hill to drop bags near apartment was useful. We were lucky enough to stay in the Edi Apartment called Zia Maria (2nd apartment from the cliff over looking the ocean/marina). We stayed on 4th floor with own private balcony - perfect for sunset, wine and antipasto. We purchased wine (great Chianti for 3 euros a bottle), food and other needs from town store. Used the cooking utensils to cook our own breakfast each morning, catch the train to other Cinque Terra towns during the day and dine at the great local restaurants each night. The apartment had 2 levels with steep stairs and a number of steep flights to get up to the room, but it was all worth it. This apartment can fortunately get free wifi when out on the balcony from neighbouring restaurant. Sitting on the balcony watching the sunset and fisherman over a bottle of wine, salami meats, anchovies and olives, was the experience i was looking for !

We stayed at Edi for three nights, first week of April 2012. It is exactly a minute's walk from the railway station at Riomaggiore. [ at the end of the tunnel as you leave the station ] Right outside the apartment is a cooperative store, pizzeria, cafe bar with scratchy internet connection, restaurants....the view from the apartment window is breathtaking, over looking the sea. The apartment is sufficiently spaced for two adults, has a moderately equipped kitchenette, tiny bathroom. Services are really weak- nobody changed towels, sheets nor cleared the trash ! No WiFi available. It was extremely cold at night and the heating system didnt work. You can hear every sound that happens on the street below- could be a bit annoying. Nevertheless, we had a great time at Cinque Terra....the place is so beautiful that you are hardly in the apartment !
