“Great location, clean, comfortable, and friendly”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2014

This B&B was absolutely wonderful. I have lived in Italy for 6 months and stayed in many hotels, and this place stands out as the best. The room we stayed in was spacious, clean, and had plenty of amenities (toiletries, coffee, snacks, bottled water) included in the price. Breakfast is provided, but it is small (croissants). For me, however, this wasn't a problem since half the fun of traveling is searching for food options outside of the hotel. The host was friendly and helpful -- she gave us maps of trails to hike in Cinque Terre (including a wonderful recommendation for a hike that we would not have figured out on our own), a train schedule, a ferry schedule, and recommended restaurants. The price is great as far as hotel in the area go. Riomaggiore is also a lovely town to stay in with many options for restaurants and bars. I highly recommend this B&B with no reservations.

Great host, great b&b, we had a nice size room with double bed and balcony, the bed was comfortable and the balcony had a street view of beautiful Riomaggiore where we would sometimes have a small lunch from the nearby markets or wine at night. The bathroom was very nice and it had a large shower. The entire room was very clean and well kept with tasteful art/decor thru-out. The morning croissants are homemade and delicious .....and still warm if you eat them when delivered. This was our favorite stay of anywhere during our entire Italy trip. We hope to make it back one day.

We stayed in the blue room, it was very nice, big and clean with a lovely balcony over the street.
Only reason not to put 5 stars is breakfast can not be provided (they can give you things to do ot yourself in the room) + the host was not particularly friendly (she was ok though, so I would still highly recommend this place!)

Glad to hear that you enjoyed the Blu Room during your stay with us and sorry to hear that you did not enjoy the breakfast that we provided. The type of breakfast we serve is an Italian style breakfast as described in our e-mails corrispondence with you.
I truly do not know what to say with regards to my not being friendly as it appears that all the other reviews speak rather highly of my warm friendly attitude. So I apologize if I came off as being unfriendly with you. Warm Regards, Maddy & Franco

Il Boma was just what we were looking for after some hectic days in Florence. The room was clean and large with a very clean bathroom and a charming balcony. Maddy was a very helpful hostess whose recommendations for dining were superb. She also arranged for us to take a walking tour with an Italian National Park ranger (her cousin). The walking tour was fun, not too strenuous, and provided lots of information and fun facts. Il Boma is a very short walk from the train station and well situated in the town. Maddy makes brioche for her guests every morning. I think we'd go back just for those!

This was the first part of our Italy trip where I felt we could actually relax. We stayed in the one room without a balcony, but still a great view of the main street below. We also had the private but external bathroom. I could see where this might concern people, but it was not an issue for us. Maddy was an extremely great host. Fully prepared with all the information needed when staying in the Cinque Terre (maps, train/ferry schedules, trail info). Special touches like freshly home-made croissants hanging outside our room every morning is one of the many reasons why I definitely stay at il Boma again if I'm ever fortuante enough to be back in the Cinque Terre!

Room Tip: The room without the balcony and en-suite bathroom was a great price, but it would probably be worth...

If you are coming to Riomaggiore, I can't think of a better location to stay than at Il Boma. We got of the train and it was only a few steps up the hill before we were at 99 Via Columbo. So many people were dragging suitcases so much farther up the hill but this was absolutely a perfect location. The Blue Room was 3 flights up the stairs and we were met there by Maddy who was very helpful with restaurant recommendations, hiking recommendations, and of course, the daily fresh croissants hanging in a bag on our door each morning. The Blue Room has a balcony and we had a front row seat to all the activity going on in the street below. We also were extremely fortunate to be here on Good Friday. We witnessed an amazing Good Friday evening procession on Via Columbo all from the comfort of our balcony. I have photos and video as well.

The only downsides are that it can be a little noisy at night but we were used to that by the second night and it was very quiet on our last night with was Good Friday. The view is of the street and not the water. But you can walk up higher in the town for that.

But if you want a central location in a beautiful town where you can get a real feel of life in Riomaggiore, Il Boma is the place.

Room Tip: The Blue Room has the balcony as well as a nice bathroom.

Ciao Ross and Ann, Thanks so much for your wonderful review we truly appreciate feedback and positive ones even better. The processions in town can be quite overwhelming (I know they still are for me even after all the years I've lived here) and you did have ring side seating.
We hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip and that we will have you again as our guests sometime in the future. Regards Maddy & Franco
