Altho this hotel has one of the prettier views in Monterosso, the location adds to it's undesireability. You can not walk the road to or from the town since it is at least 1.5 miles on a very narrow, curvy, steep incline. The hotel transportation van runs on a regular but mis-timed schedule and can easily fill up with the 8 passenger seats before all guests are boarded. That requires a wait for the van to drop off and return in approx. 12-15 minutes. It stops running about 1:30am so don't plan on staying out late.
The front desk staff (with the exception of the night clerk) is extremely indifferent and borders on dismissive. The breakfast wait staff seems bored and clearly prefers to wait on non-Americans. Breakfast was limited in selections with small platters of meat, cheese, some breads, yogurt and cold cereal. There is nothing cooked to order.
WiFi is not free and requires a pass code from the desk clerk each time you want to use it.
Rooms are typical European size but the shower is very small and you can't turn around inside it. One day we received dish towels in place of hand towels.
The drop mounted TV is across the room from the bed and appears to be about a 15" screen so viewing is difficult.
We booked over 2 months in advance but our room window opened to the back of the hotel facing a rock wall which was close enough to touch. Inquiries for a different room were responded with a "we're full" response and then clerk turned her back.

Spent a wonderful week with my husband in the Suisse Hotel Bellevue. Monterosso is the best of the 5 Cinque Terre towns to stay in, as all trains stop here, and it is largest of the other 4 villages. The Suisse offers the best view, in the most superb location, with very high standards of cleanliness, service and good breakfast. Ask for a sea view room. The hourly free shuttle bus service to the village makes it easy to pop up and down to the beach and village below. The hotel's location, at 800 m up, makes for fabulous views all along the Cinque Terre and for total tranquility. If you are hill-walkers, this is a great location, as all the trails are easily accessible, either on foot, or by local train.

I very much enjoyed out stay. I think the location of this hotel could be a plus or minus for potential guests, depending on your needs and personal preference. The location is way up on top of a hill in the mountainside of Monterosso. This was both good and bad for us. Good, because the views are breathtaking. You are above the village and get amazing seascape views. Our hotel room view wasn't even sea side, and was of the national park, and it was STILL gorgeous. It's also nice and quiet. We slept with the window open the entire night and the only sounds we heard were of nature. The place really quiets up by 11 and everyone is settling in for the night after a busy day of hiking and swimming. But in exchange for these views and peace and quiet, you need to take the shuttle, or do the walk up to the top of the hill. The shuttle comes hourly to take people from town to the hotel, and from the hotel into town. They will give you a print out of what time it leaves. It can be a bit stressful since there is no queue and people just kind of try to slip in to the vehicle. This can prove to be frustrating if you have more people than seats, which happened a few times to us. That being said, it's possible to make the walk, but definitely not meant for everyone. I'm 30, lean but definitely not in shape, and was a bit tired by the time we got to the top, but I know this isn't possible for everyone so just keep that in mind. Anyone with injuries or disabilities wouldn't be able to make the walk. That being said, I saw small children and a woman who looked 70 doing it. You'll just need to take the shuttle the first time and decide for yourself while you're in the shuttle. You just need to be a bit careful while walking because there are no sidewalks. That being said, there also are not many cars either, so unless you hear/see a car coming, most people just walk in teh middle of the road. Forget trying to get your luggage up there without the help of the shuttle. Hotel staff was very friendly and cordial to us. Sadly I can't say the same about the shuttle guys. They were a mixed bag, acting like they were doing you a big favor even though this shuttle is covered in the hotel fee. But, sometimes you have to take the bad with the good. If you NEED to be able to go back to your room multiple times a day, then this probably isn't your best bet just because it would take too long getting back and forth. But if you want a place with really nice views and peace and quiet and can tolerate the 5 minute shuttle ride, then this place is a great bet.

We stayed for 6nights. We had a room facing the wall on the first night- it was dark but the shower was super and the beds were comfortable. The other nights we stayed with a balcony and a view and it was lovely to come back in the evening, order a cup of tea and sit on the balcony and look at the water. The beds were much much less comfortable in this room (this was the only bad thing about the holiday), and the shower wasn't super, but adequate. The rooms are very clean and not too small- considering three of us shared, it was fine. The TV may as well be nonexistent because we couldn't bare to turn it on and watch it instead of the view, but also it was tiny and ancient. The breakfast was good. There was one nice waitress and one grumpy one, but that just added to the theatre of the morning. Food was always fresh and we were promptly served our tea or coffee.
There is a mini bus that picks you up from accross the road from Mikey's restaurant just a 5min walk from the station. It only seats 8 but the driver always comes back to pick you up- if you don't fit in the first load, and it usually takes about 10mins for his return. Or you can order a cab for 5euro, which is a good idea when you first arrive if you are tired and don't want to wait a couple of times for a spot and a good idea when you are checking out so you don't stress about the train. We ordered a cab, however the people on the free mini bus got to the station the same time- so it is just preference. We caught the free shuttle many times, and some guests were rude and would push even elderly ladies out of the way, while others were polite and respectful- like anywhere you go I guess. The hill up to the hotel is very very steep, but the drivers are so used to it I never felt unsafe- and I am usually terrible with heights etc.
The hotel has a deal with a beach that will give you a discount for chairs etc, however we found going to the one near the old statue more private, if more expensive. Because we were travelling light we purchased beach towels from the shop next to Mikey's for 5 euro and just left them when we left.
