“Great small hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 18, 2013

Spent 3 nights in September and really enjoyed the hotel and Monterosso. The rooms are large with very good bathrooms. Book very early if you want a room with a terrace. But even if you get an interior room, the roof-top terrace is very nice with views of the sea. Great at sunset for a relaxing glass of wine! The included breakfasts are more than sufficient and the staff is eager to please and help their guests. The only challenge is finding the hotel. It is really very close to the town square, but it is hidden as it is about 50 yards down a very narrow lane off the back corner of the square.

4 of us had 2 rooms for 4 nights the first week in Sept. The room was a good size and the bathroom was decent although a little cramped. The shower was a good size with good water pressure and fully enclosed so you didn't have to worry about water splashing everywhere. The rooms were very quiet. The hotel is tucked away off the main square of the old town a bit, which was nice. The 2 ladies we interacted with at the front desk were so nice and helpful and genuinely friendly. I really appreciated that.

My 2 annoyances:
- For the wifi, they treat it like their bank account number. Each of us got our own username/login since a login could not be used concurrently by more than one device. The passwords were alphanumeric, making it hard to remember, and you had to log in frequently. That said, I was there for the beach, but if internet is important, you should know about this hassle.

- The woman in the breakfast room was grumpy and kind of mean. I tried to give here the benefit of the doubt at the beginning, but she pissed us off at the end. Not the most pleasant way to wake up. That said, I think they tried to do a standard European breakfast--pastries, fruit, yogurt, hard-boiled egg, meat and cheese. As long as you don't deviate from standard rules or ask to change tables, you should enjoy it.

From the moment we checked in with M. Selene, to the end, it was perfect. Room 110, with the private balcony overlooking the town, was large and perfect. Every morning I would go to the breakfast room, with light beaming in, and get 2 cups of coffee, and the woman would press the elevator buttons so I could take them back to the room to drink on my balcony. The location was #1. The breakfasts were #1. The room was #1.

Very friendly, helpful staff who genuinely want you to have a good stay
We were greeted with fresh lemonade and encouraged to rest on the couches before we went to settle in our room. The rooms are immaculate in terms of cleanliness, well air conditioned and fitted out with the necessary comforts like Hairdryer, fridge (no freezer), TV with CNN and BBC.
All the staff we dealt with we're very helpful, providing local tips on when its best to do the Cinque Terre walk and which trails are available. The hotel is tucked away behind the main square in old town which means its nice and quite but still only 50m from the action. It's doesn't have beach views other than from the roof terrace but we didn't mind as we spent most of our time on the beach.

We had a great stay in this hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was modern, clean and large with a massive, comfy double bed. We had a lovely bathroom with marble everywhere and a little outdoor seating area but no view. We didn't bother with the breakfast as it seemed very expensive at 11 euros a head. Instead we had tea in our room for 2 euros each and then went to a local café for breakfast. The hotel is in a great location in the old part of town, up a narrow little lane, then up a flight of steps to the hotel entrance and garden area. Monterosso is a fantastic location for a holiday. There are lots of little narrow streets and lanes with restaurants, cafes, bars and shops all around. It is easy to get to by train from Genoa or Pisa and the hotel is a ten minute walk from the station through the pedestrian tunnel and then through the main piazza. There are a few different beaches to choose from, the main bits are run by the beach cafes and you have to hire a parasol and deckchairs to go on. There are 3 free beaches and we bought a parasol for a few euros and used those mostly.

Great location, but know you will have to carry your luggage up a set of steps before reaching the lobby. The hotel reminds me more of a bed and breakfast. The room numbers aren't by floor and the key is huge! LOL the staff was super friendly and the view from the roof top was awesome. The breakfast was ok, but it is equivalent to a continental breakfast in the US. Our room was new and clean. Good size for Italy.

The location of the hotel was excellent!
The room was OK, very simple, but good size for Italy!
I work remotely, so I needed an Internet...
The Internet wasn't working in our room - just working in main lobby.
Also , the air conditioning was not cooling room enough!
It is an average hotel!
