“Great hotel!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2013

Really lovely hotel right in the heart of Old Town Monterosso. Frequent signs easily mark the way to the hotel. Really close to restaurants, shopping, beach and hiking trails. Hotel is beautiful and clean. Our room had a private terrace, so nice! It has two lounge chairs and a small table with 2 chairs. Perfect for afternoon lounging. Breakfast was great, the best we had in Italy. The chocolate croissants are amazing! Staff was so helpful, friendly and informative. Only downside is that we found the bed a bit hard for our taste. Would definitely stay here again!

We had a great stay at La Colonnina hotel. There were 3 of us sharing and we'd asked for a triple room. I was lucky enough to have my own small loft style room with a nice skylight and my own entrance to the shared terrace. Lots of storage shelves in my room, no space for wardrobes as the ceiling was quite low. Lucky I am short so that didn't bother me. Bed very comfortable. Bathroom spacious. Breakfasts were very good, lovely buffet style. This stay was only our first week in Italy and we were amazed to find cakes on the breakfast buffet!! Also the ham and cheese became a little less appetising as we travelled throughout Italy for the next 8 weeks!! It was on every breakfast buffet! I guess it's like our bacon and eggs. We were thrilled to have wifi in the room and the staff were very efficient and friendly. We enjoyed our welcome drink sitting out under the lovely big old tree in the garden of the hotel. Fantastic place which I would highly recommend. Nice views of the coast from the top terrace and of Monterosso.

We arrived late & were immediately welcomed by Selene. Our rooms were clean & comfortable. The rooftop terrace is lovely & we enjoyed some beverages & card playing there one evening. The breakfast had exceptional variety & quality. We are seriously missing the cappuccinos. We would definitely stay here again & recommend to friends & family.

We stayed at The Hotel Colonnina in Monterosso all mare, Italy and used it as our central location as we explored Cinque Terre. It just couldn't have been more perfect .... excellent rooms (Small but clean, convenient and modern) with an excellent breakfast each morning. And, it is just moments from the Mediterranean and the amazing vistas of this region. You will love this place.

Room Tip: Ask for the highest floor possible ... the views are incredible.

This is an outstanding hotel in old town. Excellent service, clean, nice rooms! Highly recommend. Be prepared to haul your luggage from the train station...there are no cabs to drive you to the hotel! Of course, hauling luggage on the trains is no small feat either. Monterosso is an excellent little town. It was our favorite of the cinque terre 5 coastal towns...although the next one over, Varnazza (sp?) was a close second. Wonderful area. Warning that the hike between Monterosso and Vernazza is quite challenging. Don't underestimate it. But well worth all the views. The final leg into Vernazza is to die for!

Room Tip: Our room was on the top floor, small view of the harbor. Nice sized. Only noise was from the bells t...

We could not have asked for a more perfect stay in the Cinque Terre. The location in the quaint Old town is perfect. The hotel is clean and modern. The staff is friendly and helpful. We arrived lated on a Wednesday night. There were 19 of us there to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary! Selene had cold orange juice waiting for all of us! We had 5 rooms of which one was the rooftop terrace #120 which we gave to my parents. We called it the honeymoon suite because it is large and the only room on the roof. The entire hotel is clean and updated but the rooftop terrace room is truly special. Reserve it if you can.The breakfast had a good variety and the cappuccinos were delicious. The breakfast staff were very sweet and attentive. We will definitely return!

Room Tip: Room #120 is large and on the rooftop. Very special with a great view of the water.

We stayed three nights at the hotel and really enjoyed the location and quality. It's in great shape, very clean and staff is extremely friendly and courteous. We did not have a room with a terrace, so our room was somewhat small, but our price reflected that and we knew what we were getting upfront. We also liked the fact that it was located in Old Town, as we felt there was more to do on that side (and appreciated the beach wasn't as crowded). The hotel is also pretty quiet, especially since you can use the a/c and keep the windows closed -- and it was also the most comfortable bed we had during our 16-day trip to Italy.

They do only take cash, but they are also upfront about it.

At this point, it isn't possible to take a taxi to the hotel, as there's a temporary tunnel in place, due to a rock slide (or perhaps fixing an area?), and taxis can only bring you up to the opening and it's maybe 1/2 way to the hotel. Once you get to Old Town, the hotel is signed pretty well to direct you up the right path. I would agree that it 's shorter to get off the train, go left and go down the hill toward Old Town, rather than going through the main train station.

Room Tip: If you can get a room with a terrace, it's probably worth the splurge. The only down side is th...
