We stayed in the month of August. Location was great, easy access to all. Matteo and his team were extremely helpful in whatever we needed to know. We were even delayed getting there the fist night due to a delay in our flight and he waited up for us. His recommendations to restaurants around were spot on. We would certainly recommend others to go and would return if we got back there again one day.

We stayed at Villa Steno for 3 days during our time in the Cinque Terre in September. As previously reported by other guests, this is a lovely, small hotel that offers personal attention.

The hotel is a bit of a climb from the town but worth it for the spectacular views it offers. We had Room 18 which is in a small annex beside the main building and we were very pleased with it as it had a large, private terrace with sun beds and a patio table with chairs where we enjoyed our evening cocktails. The room was large enough with a good bathroom and excellent shower.

The owner Matteo is very helpful and friendly and nothing seems to be too much trouble for him or his staff. The breakfasts are very good and everything is fresh. You have the option of eating inside or outside on the small balcony if the weather is good.

We were very happy with our choice to base in Monterosso and even happier with our choice of the Villa Steno.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Villa Steno during our fabulous time in the Cinque Terre. We read about this hotel in Rick Steves' travel guide. This is a great little hotel offering a clean room, lobby bar, beach towels (3 euros to rent for the entire stay) and a very useable bathroom. Most rooms (ours included) have a little balcony with a view of the ocean. Please be aware that one must walk up about 100 steps from the street below to get back to your hotel room (or walk around and up the steep diveway). Our room had an ugly brown laminate floor- but I think some rooms have hard woods. We were about 0.3 miles from the beach I would say. The other hotel owned by this family (Pasquale?) has a better location, basically right on the water. Internet is available for a charge. Hotel front desk staff is English speaking and happy to recommend restaurants and Cinque Terre travel tips. I would stay here again- but would probably try the better located sister hotel (without all of those steps!)

We stayed at the Hotel Villa Steno for two nights during our 2 week vacation in Italy and I was very pleased with this hotel. The room was clean, quiet and comfortable with a great location even though you need to be warned that in order to get to the hotel, you have to climb many steps since the hotel sits on a hill. The view from our private balcony was spectacular. However, the A/C did not seem to be efficient in our room. The room was very hot in the evenings and seemed to cool down over night. I'm not sure if this was due to the A/C or the outside temperature since it seemed to be cooler outside than in our room in the mornings. Also, the mosquitos were really bad in the evenings so we could not enjoy our balcony (this obviously is no fault of the hotel). Definitely bring some bug spray if you are going in the summer months.

This is a very nice, family-run hotel overlooking the old part of Monterosso. Large comfortable rooms, balcony (for view rooms), nice shower, little fridge.

There is no lift, but the stairs are wide, well-lit and easy to climb. That said, unless you can climb stairs, don't stay here as you do need to climb stairs (or take the steep, long way around driveway) to get to the property. I loved it - you go down through a private garden and end up right smack in the old town! And there is a mini-mart at the bottom of the stairs too. **Take a cab from the train station with your luggage as they say on their site!! The walk is easy and nice without luggage, but definitely not with.

Matteo is very nice and can speak several languages. His family has been in Cinque Terre for generations. The breakfast spread is very nice and the room has great views (plus a terrace to eat outside) and the lovely lady who make cappucinos is wonderful. There are also several internet machines in the lobby (small cost)

I will definitely stay here again.

The Hotel Villa Steno was absolutely lovely -- clean, friendly, very well-maintained, and with a beautiful view. My room was a little small by US standards but very comfortable (of course, the ubiquitous angels graced the wall). The bathroom was modern and everything functioned perfectly. My balcony had a view of the water and the hillsides. The (included) breakfast was your typical European buffet-type breakfast, but everything was very fresh and well-stocked. The staff was so friendly, welcoming and helpful! They also spoke perfect English. I was there in July 2006 and my single room was only 90 euros per night (booked from their own website), so absolutely well worth the price.

The only cons worth mentioning: This hotel is at the top of a fairly steep hill, so take a taxi from the station (5 euros) if you're not ready for a bit of a hike. Also, there wasn't an elevator and getting to and from your room requires a lot of stairs, so if you have mobility problems, you might mention this at booking to see if they offer more accessible accommodations.

Monterosso is absolutely gorgeous, and the Hotel Villa Steno is beautiful as well.
