Being our first visit to Cinque Terre we weren't sure where to stay, but all the reviews pointed here and fortunately they had space for a few nights, because it was absolutely the perfect choice.

This adorable house is set up on the hill amidst lemon groves with a gorgeous view of the old town. Upon arrival we were given a really nice welcome packet with information regarding the train schedule, a map, information about the town, and wifi connection. There was a recent mudslide in the area, which changed our plans a bit, but even then Mateo and Carla were full of tips, updates, and information. We could even park our car in their drive, which saved us a lot of hassle.

The walk down to the waterfront takes about 10 minutes and it's another 10 minutes to cross into the New Town area where the train station is if the tunnel isn't closed due to mudslides.

Mateo and Carla take such great care of their visitors with a very hearty breakfast complete with homemade organic lemon cake and preserves made from Villa Steno lemons and were even so thoughtful as to give us a lindt chocolate bunny on Easter Sunday.

We stayed in room 16, which has a quiet back patio. There's a stunning view and lounge chairs above the house, which look out over the city. It's perfect to check out at sunset while the bull frogs are noisy below.

If it's a rainy stay, like ours was, they also have great sat TV with programming from Germany, Italy, and the UK. We'd unquestionably stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

Mateo and team went above and beyond. Gave the best service of any hotel owner my family and I have experienced. The details down to the warmed, hand made crossiants at breaky, organizing taxis and reservations. Paying for part of the taxi as the walking tunnel was collapsed in. At every turn they were patient, kind, generous and sincere. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

Villa Steno is a beautiful BB set up from the village of Monterosso, a short walk from the waterfront. The setting is pristine and the building and amenities are generous and modern. Mateo and his wife Carla made us feel at home and they genuinely looked after us in preparation for our arrival and during our short stay. Carla's baking at breakfast remains a highlight of our trip to Italy, you must try the airy yeast popovers stuffed with apricots. In retrospect, we would have day tripped vs moving on to Manarola for our second night.

Lovely clean hotel. Nice rooms all with small terraces...overlooking the village or the sea. Friendly staff welcomes you with a glass of prosecco. Sit on the sunny upper terrace to enjoy the beauty of the area. Hiking is the thing here...we just came to see it. Don't bring a car...come by train... The drive from autostrade is crazy curvy up and down, hairpin turns like none I have seen before . Scary for sure. Glad I had a good driver who wasn't scared. Otherwise I would have passed out over the edge...what a drive. So take the train.
Hotel has nice breakfast and great big bathroom. Comfy beds. Come here!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the sea with a terrace.

Matteo and Carla and the rest of the staff at Villa Steno make you feel very welcome. Rooms are a good size and very clean. We had lovely views from the terrace outside our room.

The main terrace off the small breakfast area was also pleasant for drinks of an evening and chatting to fellow travellers.

We were able to park our small car in their carpark. There are a number of steps up from the town to the accommodation.

Breakfasts were amongst the best we had in Italy. The day cruise from the harbour to the other villages was excellent. We were blessed with beautiful weather.
