This huge statue at the end of Monterosso is interesting to see. It is a short walk to the end of town. We wanted to climb up near the statue, but it looks like it is on private property and it was gated upon our arrival. There were a few other tourists trying to get in the gate when were were there as well. The hours the gate is open isn't publicized.

Took a gentle walk up to Il Gigante and had a look back at beautiful Monterosso. Decided to keep walking uphill for an even better view...and kept walking in the direction of Levanto on the marked walk. It became clear that this walk was something quite special. It was a steep climb up to the top of the mountain (one hour) but the views were beyond spectacular. There is then a relatively gentle decent into Levanto (a further two hours) through beautiful forest trails with again spectacular views out to the sea. Levanto is not a bit resorty with a lot of beaches and lots and lots of sunbathers...the train back to Monterosso only takes 15 mins!! This was my favorite walk of all the treks between the five (six!!!) towns and I can't understand why this particular walk is not promoted more...and by the way it is free.

If all you have seen is the Italian or French Riviera, you'd be ok with the beach. But if you have ever walked bare feet on a sandy beach and were expecting that, this would be disappointing and you'd ask yourself, why you even made the effort.
This is exactly how I felt when my husband and I, came from Riomaggiore here. The trains which are often delayed was super late.
The statue is a sight for maximum of 2 minutes. After that, the charm wears off. But if you're in town, don't leave without checking it out.

Siamo stati in questa spiaggia metà giornata (dalle 14:00 circa) a metà agosto. Noleggiato ombrellone e 2 lettini in spiaggia privata a 20 € (anzichè 21 come esposto).

We've been in this beach in the afternoon (from 14:00) of a day in the half of August. We have rent 2 sun beds and an umbrella in the private beach for 20€ instead of 21€, that was the price exposed. In my opinion a good price, in line with other prices in Monterosso and surely lower than prices in other ligurian places not so beautiful. Good view, the statue is very striking and make the landscape unique. Since the beach is just under a promontory, shadow come very early in the afternoon. Sea didn't seem to be very clean, but maybe it was due to the fact that was a cloudy day. There's the possibility to have lunch in the bar of the beach or bringing food from outside, for example a piece of flat bread from the near bakery on the seafront.
