“Perfect Location.....Way Too Expensive and Low Quality”
Reviewed July 14, 2010

While we enjoyed our stay in Cinque Terre, This hotel was much too expensive for what you received. The location is right in the center of town...when you walk out the door of the hotel you are immediately amongst all of the restaurants and shops.

Room quality was very low...our double bed was two singles put on one frame. The airconditioning felt like a fan with ice in front of it..it automatically shut down after 20 minutes. No elevator and it's quite ahike with luggage up the four flights of stairs.

While reception was helpful and nice...the actual reception room was disgusting. A tiny heat box with flies everywhere.

Breakfast was subpar...enough to fill you up for a day's journey and you could order off of a hot menu. The terrace needs some TLC...pictures online are not reality.

This hotel is located in the heart of the Cinque Terre right near restaurants and the beach. We had a car and parked right outside of town and walked in with our luggage. The staff is friendly. Be aware that it's a fifth floor walkup which is good exercise but gets old after a few days. The rooms are acceptable. Breakfast at this hotel was fabulous. It was on the roof and the only place in Italy that we were offered eggs for breakfast. Walk to the beach and turn left and eat at the restaurant that sits on the water. It was our best meal in Italy by far. Order the urn of seafood! At the beach you pay for a chair. Bring water shoes- the beaches are rocky.

Great hotel for this region. Excellent views and is located close to beach, and train. Staff is very helpful and accommodating. Very quaint area of the town. I would definately stay here again.

Much better than first impression. It's a really good 2 star that was not 2 star as far as the rooms go. We were pleasantly surprised by how nice the rooms were. The rooms are 3 or more. The lobby looks ancient and leaves you wondering what is in store. The people who run it are extremely nice. The breakfast waiter is a typical Italian who is set in his ways which makes him a bit odd. The breakfast includes cooked to order choices of omlettes or eggs. Most unusual offering for an Italian hotel, which is great! The location is perfect for whichever direction you want to go in. There is no elevator so be warned. I've stayed in all kinds of fancy hotels and in it's own way this hotel stands out as a great find.

Finding a hotel in Cinque Terra's high season is no easy feat when you're booking last-min, but this hotel was available and boasted good reviews, so we indulged.

Monterosso
I loved this seaside town. It is charming, slow-paced, relaxing and an excellent location for walking/hiking or train day-trips. If you're feeling lazy, lay on the beach and take in the Italian Riviera lifestyle. The food in Monterosso was fresh & amazing, of all the places we visited in Italy, the restaurants and fare here were the absolute best. The town has two parts: new town and old town. The Stella hotel is located in the old town.

The Breakfast
The hotel's included breakfast is the best part of the property's offering. Served in a roof-top terrace at least 6 stories high, you eat overlooking the jungle of tall, thin buildings leading down to the ocean. Breakfast includes: eggs, cappuccino and other like bevs, pastries, breads, jams, meats, cheeses, etc... The kitchen staff take their job very seriously and try to take your order very quickly. Even though it may be early, prepare to be on-the-ball when you order.

The Rooms
The rooms were decent, but not great. They had all the basic amenities I would expect. The bathroom was small, but this did not bother me given it was a)europe, and b)was an old town. I mostly disliked the room because the bed felt like I was lying directly on plywood. Our room had the 'view--or should i say opened up to--an alley-like walkway. Bring earplugs if you want to sleep in.

Other
- 10-min walk from the train station
- has wireless but it's slow (for a fee, i think it was 3 euros for 1/2 hour)
- staff were fairly gracious
- prepare to pay a lot for what you get in high season

Nice, and convenient to all the wonderfulness of Monterosso, which we loved. Huge window overlooking restaraunts and the old city, nice view, really nice breakfast offered on the rooftop with lots of great choices, GREAT coffee. Way too expensive though- found other hotels were much cheaper for the same offerings. Third floor, lots of stairs, tiny bathroom, tiny shower, very little english spoken here. Very comfortable though and good service. However will likely make a different choice next time. We will be back. Monterosso rocks!

This hotel was clean and had bigger rooms than we expected. The shower/bathroom was nice and the room also had a TV and minibar. The perk to the hotel is the breakfast on the terrace each morning, which includes homemade espresso/capuccino, omelets, eggs and bacon made to order. The breakfast also has a continental bar with breads, cheeses, jams, and hams.

The terrace is open 24 hours and overlooks the water, so its nice to buy a bottle of wine at any nearby store and enjoy it at night on the terrace (the hotel provides a corkscrew and cups in the room).

The hotel is is old town Monterosso, which is more quaint and has more restaurants and little piazzas unlike the new town, though new town is only a 10 minute walk away. All the hotels in these areas are convenient to any location, since the town is so small. This one is basically right on the square near the water.

The only downside is the hotel does not have wifi or an internet connection.
