We had 2 rooms reserved for 3 nights the first of October. Both rooms had heavy duty air fresheners in the bathrooms that overpowered the whole room! We told the staff that they bothered us because they were so strong and 2 of the four people had allergies. We removed them ourselves, after a while one room cleared of the strong smell somewhat and the other room you could smell the mold in the bathroom. Very unpleasant to be in the rooms. Because of this
we advised the hotel that we would have to check out a day early. They said it didn't matter to them, do what we had to do but they were still going to charge us for the third night! The hotel needed a deep cleaning & updating. Showers were very small, could hardly move. Despite all this we were prepared to stay but when you can't breath that changes everything.

We had a very nice stay at Hotel Stella. The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to help us, even helping to lug our very heavy luggage up 5 flights of stairs! The rooms are pretty basic with old furnishings and the bed is hard, however that seems to be standard across most of Italy. We had a fantastic view over the water and town and if you stay here I recommend asking for the top floor rooms. Breakfast was good and they will make eggs/omelettes fresh for you as well as coffee. Overall I think its a very good pick of Hotel for Monterosso at a reasonable price.

Our stay at Hotel Stella was just perfect!! Our room was on the 4th floor and our view was incredible! The staff went out of their way to carry our luggage for us! They were so helpful and gave great recommendations on restaurants. The breakfast on the rooftop terrace was delicious! Max made the best cappuccinos and omelettes!! The location of this hotel is perfect! You feel like a local living in this beautiful village. I cannot say enough about Hotel Stella! Thank you to Max and the staff for making our stay so perfect! I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Monterosso!

Room Tip: Higher rooms have beautiful views of the village!!

Despite the fact that we had to lug our heavy bags up 5 flights of stairs to reach our room, we would highly recommend this hotel. It's central location made for easy access to train station, restaurants, walks etc and we found the staff to be extremely informative and helpful. The breakfast room, in particular, was a feature due to it's location on the roof of the hotel with breathtaking views of the village and beach. We absolutely loved Monterosso and the Hotel Stella was like a home away from home for us - nothing flash but all the home comforts and lovely staff. Only negatives would be the hard, flat pillows and a bit of noise until the wee hours due to nearby restaurants. All in all a great experience!

We loved this place. We stayed in several rooms, each more comfortable and spacious than the next. From the room on the top floor we could see the sea and clocktower on one side and the pastel houses and terraced hillsides on the other. The staff was terrific. We looked forward to talking to the breakfast host Miki every morning. He knows everything about the area and is a charming and funny conversationalist. (He looks a little like George on Seinfeld.) The breakfast buffet outdoors on the terrace is a scrumptious cornucopia of pastries, meats and cheeses. Miki will also cook you eggs and bacon to order, and will make you the coffee drink of your choice. The hotel is right in the lovely old town, very close to the beach and the path to Vernazza. Step out the door and into an old world of pastel buildings and narrow, winding streets to explore. I hope, hope, hope Hotel Stella della Marina survived the devastating flood of October 2011. Does anyone know?

Room Tip: The higher floors have the best views. Lots of steps to climb, but worth it.

My husband and I stayed here for three days and felt so at home it was hard to leave. The breakfast on the terrace was lovely each morning and the service and staff were great. The owner stayed open late when our drive from Sienna took longer than we anticipated and then helped carry our bags to our room on the the top floor. I highly recommend them!

Room Tip: We were on the top floor with a view of the water - beautiful if you don't mind the steps.

Loved this hotel, it's clean and comfortable and perfectly located in the heart of Monterosso.
( and an easy walk from the train station, even with my very heavy suitcase ) The proprietors are very friendly and they make a great breakfast that's included with room rate. I loved Monterosso del Mare and can't wait to go back, and I will be staying at Hotel Stella del Marina.
