“Two fantastic days in Manarola was not enough!”
Reviewed November 16, 2011

Cinque Terra and more specifically Manarola were special and something you do not want to miss. One of our only regrets we had in our trip to Italy was in planning ahead, that we did not give ourselves one extra day to just hang out in Manarola. The apartment Mediterraneo that we stayed in Manarola was the most modern, well furnished and cleaner than any of the apartments that we stayed in during our travels. The view from the balcony was breathtaking. We have already recommended this apartment and Manarola to our friends who are planning future trips to Cinque Terra.

The staff at Arbaspaa was very friendly and helpful with all our needs. For months prior to our arrival, we communicated and they were extremely helpful in guiding us into the city, checking in and unloading luggage. One item to be aware of is to be prepared to climb some steps to get to the apartment. We were in Manarola only two evening and had great dinners both nights. If you are someone who enjoys sunsets, get a bottle or two of wine, some cheese, olives and meat and take a right and quick left out of the apartment, climb the 30 steps, pull the bench over to the wall and see one of the most perfect sunsets you will ever see.

We loved our 5 nights in Mediterraneo 2 and can't wait to go back. We had planned for it to be the relaxing end to our tour and we were not disappointed in any way with this accommodation. It was the most expensive place we stayed in but was worth it - we had our own washing machine, perfectly sized kitchen, lovely bathroom, and that huge balcony!! Everything was clean and in great condition.
Manarola is by far our favourite town in Cinque Terre as it has enough to keep you interested without being too busy. The paths and stairs were also in great condition (Riomaggiore seemed more run down) so access wasn't an issue for us.
Yes, there are a several steep stairs to get to the apartment, but if you've done your research you should know that by now. Your wheelie case is not the best option here - if you can manage one, use a backpack.
We loved swimming in the cove (not as crowded as Monterossa or Riomaggiore) but then again, sitting on the balcony with a bottle of wine enjoying the view was perfect too.

Stayed here with my boyfriend and we were very happy with the place. Yes, it's up some stairs but shouldn't be a problem for any able-bodied person. If you can get around Cinque Terre, you can make it to this apartment.

The pictures say it all, it really is as it looks, with one exception - I was a bit disappointed with the balcony. Not misrepresented at all, it just isn't quite as nice as photos (including the furniture which were quite dirty).

Also, there was no iron in the room but when we told Arbaspa about it they were mortified and said they'd rectify it immediately (that was when we checked out so don't know if it was rectified).

View is as it is shown, not full facing the sea but the inlet and square.

The absolute very best part about the whole experience though, was Arabaspa - absolutely, totally so friendly and helpful. They go above and beyond and if you don't end up booking this one I strongly urge you to book one of their other ones. Stellar service.

Just a note on Manarola...there is no beach there, if you want to stay where there is a beach stay in Rioggimore (best) or Vernazza. Manarola is def. on the quieter side as well. And MAKE SURE you dine at Billy's! Thank you Arabaspa for suggesting it me, it was the best meal of our entire trip!

We stayed at Mediterraneo 2 in mid July. As others have said a bit of hike to get to, but oh was it worth it. Very comfortable apartment, with all the facilities you need for a comfortable stay. Beautiful views from the terrace of the town and ocean. Manarola is certainly quieter than the other towns, and we enjoyed several of the cafes with the locals for cappuccino and croissants in the am. We ate dinners at Trattoria Billy, Marina Picola, and La Scoligera and all were great. Arbaspaa was very helpful and provided excellent service. Highly recommend them and this apartment.

The apartment takes a bit of getting to and gives your heart a good work out, but rewards you in every way. Manarola is quieter that the other villages, and from the balcony of Mediterraeneo 2 you get views down on the tiny harbor and across to the terraced gardens the locals use to grow their vegetables. The apartments very modern inside, spotlessly clean and has everything from speakers for your ipad to a front loading washer for the gear you have sweated on the Cinque Terre hikes. The team from Aarbaspa are cheerful and professional and we had no trouble with a booking made from Australia many months in advance. My only warning is that this place is addictive and we have vowed to be here again.

We stayed in Mediterraneo 2 for 4 nights with another couple in early July. The apartment has a very modern feel to it and with A/C, clothes washer (and ample line drying space off the balcony), dishwasher, flatscreen TV, free wireless internet and generous bedrooms by Italy standards, we had all the comforts we could have asked for. It is a bit of a hike up a long brick path (or several flights of stairs if you prefer a more direct route) to get there from the main street, so moving in/out takes some effort (especially in the July heat!) but the view from the balcony toward the water and the town and terraces above is very nice. Manarola feels less over-run with people than some of the other towns (Riomaggiore was a zoo and Vernazza and Monterosso also were very busy). The alimentari on the main drag is a great place to grab food and drinks and there is a Coop (more traditional grocery store) a little further up the way as well. The chocolate croissants in the local bakery are to die for--get them early in the morning while they are still warm! We at twice at La Scogliera restaurant--the waitstaff were super friendly and the food very good. Arbaspaa was a great host and provided all we needed. The wine and oil tasting in Groppo (small town just up the hill from Manarola) was very fun and informative and worth the money and effort to get there (you can walk or take the bus up the hill).

My wife and I stayed here for two nights in May. It was our first two nights in Italy on the way to Lucca, Chianti, Venice and Paris. In retrospect, probably our favorite night of the trip was our second night when we made pasta and drank local wine on our balcony at Mediterraneo 1. The balcony is as large as the apartment, and has a great view of the water in one direction and the town in the other. Everything about the apartment was clean and well done -- and the small washer/dryer was a surprise bonus. Highly recommend staying in Manarola and at Mediterraneo 1. Don't miss taking the ferry over to Portovenere -- cool to see the towns from the water, and Portovenere has great views, food and things to see. It would make a good alternative to staying in the Cinque Terra, with day trips to the Cinque Terra towns on the ferry. The rental agency Arbaspaa was very helpful all the way along, from the first inquiry through our stay (their office is in Manarola). The only possible negative that you should be aware of is that the apartment, like almost everything in the Cinque Terra, involves a lot of stairs. Just no way around it. It was challanging at times, but on the other hand it helped balance all of the food and wine.
