Very nice hotel in Trieste, with an excellent location, just by the Piazza della Unitá d'Italia. Very confortable lofts with all the comfort besides of a very friendly staff. The Lofts offer 2 bedrooms, two bathrooms and a very confortable family area. The hotel is located in the center of Trieste.

Room Tip: They offer nice Lofts in a variety of price combos.

SOMETHING OLD:

Trieste is one of the most enjoyable cities in Italy.
Piazza del' Unita d'Italia is still one of the largest and beautiful piazzas to visit.
The festive Saturday night locals gathering on piazza, with illuminated buildings and view of the sea is exhilarating.
The hotel location next to the piazza is unbeatable.
The hotel is still very comfortable with excellent service.
The front desk personnel is still friendly, accessible and aiming to please.
Breakfast is still very good.
This is not a chain hotel. The owner Signor Manuel Costantin is virtually there all the time, assuring that everything is running smoothly and correcting any problems real or imaginary that guests may encounter.

SOMETHING NEW:

The parking on the street across and around hotel is considered "secure", in addition to public garage and valet parking. It is free at night and on Sundays. As any place in the larger cities in Italy, it is not a bargain.....but cheaper than valet or garage parking. The hotel does not make money on any of the parking venues, it is part of the service to hotel guests.

The newest item is that the owner Signor Costantin was able to acquire adjoining old building and presently in the process of converting into hotel, which would become the part of the original hotel. The new construction did not affect the stay at the hotel.

Just a thought, based on the last travels and experiences. In Europe alone there are over twenty languages and even more dialects. The front desk staff in the hotels has to be conversant, if not fluent, in number of major languages. By not being their native language, they may come across as "offish", "rude". "impersonal", etc. ...all of this is heard before by demanding tourist mostly from northern and western Europe and USA.

Somewhere and sometime ago somebody said the following:

If Germans talk to you, it sound like they are "preaching".
As to French they are "teaching and correcting" you.
When Italians speak to you is like they are "speaking to God".

Enjoy "Dolce Vita'!

The hotel is located in a prime spot of Trieste, just next to the Unita public square, which is the heart of the city and steps away from the water. A lot of restaurants, coffee houses and bars in the area too.
Check-in was swift although I initially found the reception cold but later on as I was looking at the map to find a place to eat, one receptionist actually proposed to walk with me to a very local and traditional 'buffet' restaurant and I appreciated it since he was very right- I loved it, right next door. The room was comfortable, modern and clean, with a minimalist decor. TV and wifi worked good. The breakfast was good since there were fruits, cereals and pastries along with very good coffee and the service was good.
The hotel has a main entrance and a very convenient back entrance which is adjacent to several restaurants and makes it easy to enter your room directly. I had a room that was the first on the floor in terms of proximity to the elevator and to the staircase that is accessible from the back entrance and this may be a problem if customers come in late on weekends since you get to hear them, plus the noise on weekend nights is really overwhelming from outside- lots of people in the bars and restaurants surrounding the hotel.
There is another point worth mentioning- the AC was complicated! It faces the bathroom and I felt like I could not control it and when you step out of the shower in the morning the last thing you need is an AC blowing cold breeze on you. I may have just not figured out how it worked.
There are several good restaurants just around the hotel- I would highly recommend SaluMare, about two minutes walking- it is sort of street food fish market that is stylish.

Room Tip: As I mentioned, I would stay away from the rooms that are the closest to the elevator/staircase espe...

This hotel is located very close to the main square. There are a lot of small restaurants in the vicinity. The hotel provides a small list, but there are other options available in the narrow streets parallel to the seafront.
The reception is professional. The breakfast is OK.
Do not expect design but modern rooms in black and white. I liked it.
The hotel provides an expensive parkingplace.most of the other possibilities are metered or in parking garages.

The hotel building has been beautifully renovated so that old meets new. The place is very modern and simplistic in design with pretty much everything furnished in white.
Now to the accommodation - The room (double standard) was small but with a generously sized bathroom. As expected with a 4 star hotel some little extras are included (e.g. Sat Tv with English channels, including Sky sports which made me very happy and the girlfriend not so!), complimentary slippers, cosmetics etc. However, I was disappointed not to find any tea/coffee making facilities.
The breakfast was nice and varied and is served in an amazing room which has a glass floor displaying the old foundations.
All in all the hotel won't disappoint in terms of comfort, location or facilities, however, I have stayed in cheaper and equally as good 4star hotels in other countries.

This hotel is a good choice for visiting Trieste. The location is fantastic and the hotel is pretty good for the price. Internet was free and breakfast was included.

The location for this hotel is the best feature of this hotel. It is absolutely in the center, you cannot ask for a better location! The bad part about this is that you cannot park your car but the hotel will arrange a valet service. We used the valet and had no issues.

The pictures show an ultra modern, upscale hotel. I must tell you that in person it is not bad but it is not as nice as the photos suggest. The furnishings look cheaper in real life not bad but a bit of a disappointment.

The room was very plain, but clean. The bathroom was fine but the exhaust fan had no switch and constantly ran when we were in the room. We had to keep the bathroom door closed so we could avoid the fan noise.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at Urban Design and would stay there again if we visit Trieste

Spent 2 days in Trieste and stayed at this Hotel. Really nothing special; was advertised as a full immersion into culture and local architecture but was all uber modern and not so charming. It is also overpriced for what it is. You basically end up paying for the "design" features in the room, such as the light switches, and other elements that I imagine to be carefully thought of and placed. The fact that it is all based around the concept of design results in the rooms being black and white and having a clinical feel. Of course this is just my take on the style as I am not into the stern look. Other than that I found the girls at the reception to be slightly unfriendly and the parking facility offered has extortionate pricing, that's why there was not a single car parked there. The location was excellent, bang in the centre, and the breakfast was also very good, with a good choice and good service. All in all it was average, with the cold low ceiling rooms and the price bringing the rating down, and the breakfast and position being the positives.

Dear Mike C,
Thank you for sharing your review following your recent visit at Urban Hotel Design.
Any comment is valuable for us in order to improve our in house standards on those issues where we have an impact on. Taking the cue from your review, with regards to the parking service provided by Vip Driver, we would like to explain that Urban Hotel Design does not apply any additional charge to the service, which is the same for all the hotels in Trieste, and retai nit accurate and reliable.the costi s justified by the indoor car park, insurance and the “any-time” availability with 20 min advice.if one wishes to avail of cheaper and closer alternatives, these are described on our website under the “garage” tag.
We hope that you would appreciate our intention to welcoming you back to restore your faith in Urban Hotel Design.
Yours sincerely,
Manuel
