4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2013

Really impressive square, surrounded by beatifull buildings and overlooking Gulf of Trieste.Especially nice in the night with its splendid lights. In different time of the days, facades of the buildings have diff.colours, even in the rain it looks good, but not for foto.Real masterpiece of the previously single port of Austro-Hungarian empire.

“The largest European square on the sea”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2013

Piazza dell'Unita' d'Italia, "Piazza Unita' as it is called in Trieste is the largest square on a sea in the entire European continent. It is located in the area of Trieste called "Marina", not an official neighborhood, but a denomination given to the Triestini to the long stretch of streets nested in the south side of Trieste, along the Adriatic Sea. Piazza Unita' hosts the City hall and other historic buildings. On week-ends, people walk in there, meet friends, or relax with a drink at one of the bars with outdoor seating.

In recent years the Piazza was renovated; the asphalt was redone and many blue-ish lights were installed, which give the Piazza a surreal mood at night.

“Huge”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2013

Yes it is big.
Looks out on the sea.
Was very busy when I was there - the Barcolana regatta was on.
There were free music shows on every night of the weekend at this time.

Very nice light at sunset for photos.

“One of the great squares in Europe”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2013

A revelation; huge and surrounded on 3 sides buildings whose style is compatible. The fourth side opens to the Adriatic. The light is glorious; the sunsets; the coastline.

Easy walk to restaurants, cafes, shopping.

“Good for a relaxing couple of hours”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2013

A massive square, edged with lovely austrohungarian empire buildings, that looks out over the sea - some nice bars/cafes where you can eat, drink and people watch in comfort. There wasn't much going on when we visited in April, but I would guess that in high season there'd be the usual mime/music/singing going on. The Trieste tourist office is here....staff very helpful.
